Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series DTFA Variable-Area Flowmeter for Gases measures gas flow rates with ±5% of full-scale accuracy. Designed as an economical solution, the series is calibrated at the factory for horizontal in-line mounting and operates through a magnetic coupling system.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series DTFA withstands system pressures up to 3000 psig (200 bar) with an operating process temperature range of -40 to 200°F (-40 to 93°C). The unit offers ±1% FS repeatability. To maintain accuracy, the flowmeter should be installed in a location where ambient temperatures do not exceed 200°F (93°C) and away from excessive vibration or magnetic interference.

Installation guidelines specify that inlet piping should match the connection size to avoid turbulence caused by drastic size changes. For vacuum service, any flow control valve must be installed on the discharge side of the flowmeter. If the media is likely to be dirty, a 50-micron filter is recommended upstream of the inlet port.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple gas flow ranges and connection sizes configured via specific model numbers (e.g., DTFA-1A-10A). Available configurations include:

  • Flow Ranges: 1.5 to 10 SCFM, 2.0 to 15 SCFM, 3.0 to 20 SCFM, 3.0 to 25 SCFM, 3.0 to 30 SCFM, 4.0 to 40 SCFM, 4.0 to 50 SCFM, 5.0 to 75 SCFM, and 10.0 to 100 SCFM.
  • Process Connections: 1/4" NPT (DTFA-1A series) or 1/2" NPT (DTFA-2A series).
  • Housing Material: Aluminum body construction.

The device features a diameter of 2.5" (63.5 mm). Weights vary by model: DTFA-1A models weigh 3 lb (1.36 kg), while DTFA-2A models weigh 5 lb (2.27 kg).

Key Product Differences

The Series DTFA is distinguished from the liquid-measuring DTFW series by its specific calibration for gases and aluminum body construction, whereas DTFW units utilize brass or stainless steel bodies calibrated for liquids/oils.

  • DTFA-1A Models: Feature 1/4" NPT connections with flow ranges from 1.5 to 25 SCFM.
  • DTFA-2A Models: Feature 1/2" NPT connections with flow ranges from 30 to 100 SCFM.

All Series DTFA units are not field serviceable; repair requires returning the unit to the factory. Wetted materials include an aluminum body, 302 SS spring and range spring, PTFE-coated magnet, Acetal metering cone, and Buna seals.
