Supported Applications
The Omega TJ36 series consists of rugged thermocouple transition joint probes designed for temperature measurement in harsh conditions. These sensors feature a compact mineral-insulated cable construction with braided fiberglass insulation on the lead wire, providing durability and thermal protection.
Applications include environments requiring operation up to 482°C (900°F), enabled by the use of fiberglass and ceramic insulation materials within the probe assembly.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports a measurement range from 260 °C (500 °F) to 1204 °C (2200 °F), with specific upper temperature guidelines varying by sheath material and diameter. The probes meet or exceed Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1 accuracy standards.
- Process Temperature: Up to 482°C (900°F)
- Accuracy: SLE (Special Limits of Error) and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1
- Sheath Diameters: 1.59 mm (1/16 in), 3.18 mm (1/8 in), 4.78 mm (3/16 in), and 6.35 mm (1/4 in)
- Stem Length: Standard stem length is 152.4 mm (6 in) with a 38 mm (1.50 in) spring strain relief
The transition joint measures 27 mm (1.06 in). Overall probe lengths are available at 150 mm (6"), 300 mm (12"), and 450 mm (18"). The design incorporates a spring strain relief to prevent wire pinching.
Temperature Guidelines by Sheath Material
The maximum operating temperature varies based on the selected sheath material and diameter, as documented in the series specification table:
- Type K (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®) with 304 SS: Up to 899 °C (1650 °F)
- Type K with Inconel® 600: Ranges from 921 °C (1690 °F) for 1.59 mm diameter up to 1149 °C (2100 °F) for larger diameters
- Type K with Super OMEGACLAD® XL: Ranges from 1038 °C (1900 °F) up to 1204 °C (2200 °F)
- Type J (IRON-CONSTANTAN) with 304 SS: Up to 721 °C (1330 °F)
- Type T (COPPER-CONSTANTAN) with 304 SS: Up to 371 °C (700 °F)
Configuration Options
The TJ36 series is configurable across multiple parameters including thermocouple type, sheath material, junction configuration, and lead termination. The standard electrical connection features stripped lead terminations.
- Thermocouple Types: Type K (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®), Type J (IRON-CONSTANTAN), Type T (COPPER-CONSTANTAN)
- Junction Configurations: Grounded, Exposed, or Ungrounded
- Sheath Materials: 304 SS, Inconel® 600, and Super OMEGACLAD® XL are standard. Additional sheaths available include 310 SS, 316 SS, 321 SS, Hastelloy® X.
- Connector Options: Optional M8/M12 connectors (male straight or right-angled) can be added to the model number for additional cost using suffixes "M8-S-M", "M12-S-M", "M8-R-M", or "M12-R-M".
- Dual Element: Dual element configurations are available in specific variants (e.g., -DUAL).
The series is manufactured in the USA. The model number guide follows the format: TJ36-----CC.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series differ primarily by thermocouple type, sheath material composition, and physical dimensions. The model number explicitly defines these distinctions:
- Sheath Material Codes: CASS (304 SS), CAIN (Inconel® 600), CAXL (Super OMEGACLAD® XL)
- Diameter Codes: 116 (1/16"), 18 (1/8"), 316 (3/16"), 14 (1/4")
- Junction Type Indicators: G for Grounded, E for Exposed, U for Ungrounded
The series offers standard stripped lead terminations as the default configuration. Variants with M8 or M12 connectors are distinguished by specific suffixes added to the base model number.
