Supported Applications
The Omega PR-12 series consists of Industrial RTD (PT100) Probes with Cast Iron Protection Heads. These probes are designed for temperature monitoring in industrial processes, specifically for installation into large vessels and tanks as well as large pipes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PR-12 series utilizes a PT100 Ω or PT1000 Ω platinum RTD element with a TCR of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C standard and nominal resistance of 100 Ω and 1000 Ω at 0°C. The wetted sheath material is 316 stainless steel, housed in cast iron protection heads rated IP67.
Process temperature ranges vary by model family:
- PR-12L (Low): -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F)
- PR-12H (High): -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F)
- PR-12E (Extreme): -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F)
Accuracy specifications are defined by model:
- PR-12L: Class A conforming to IEC 60751.
- PR-12H: Class A from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F); or else Class B.
- PR-12E: Class A from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F); or else Class B.
The series meets vibration and shock ratings per IEC standards. Vibration compliance is tested at IEC 60068-2-6; 5 to 2000 Hz sweep rate, one active per minute; number of sweep cycles 10 and acceleration 5g (15 probes tested together); Duration: 1 day. Shock compliance is tested at IEC 60068-2-27; 50g/11ms (15 probes tested together); Duration: 1 day.
Response Time by Diameter and Model
T90 response times vary based on probe diameter and model family:
- PR-12L: 1/8" (2.4 sec), 3/16" (2.8 sec), 1/4" (3.25 sec)
- PR-12H: 1/8" (2.8 sec), 3/16" (4.11 sec), 1/4" (5.41 sec)
- PR-12E: 1/8" (9 sec), 3/16" (9.8 sec), 1/4" (10.6 sec)
Configuration Options
The PR-12 series is configurable across several dimensions to meet specific installation requirements.
- Diameters: Available in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 inch.
- Lengths: Standard probe lengths include 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 inches. Other lengths may be built using the Omega configurator.
- Process Connection: All models feature a 1/2" NPT mounting thread for installation in thermowells.
- Electrical Connection: Includes a screw terminal block for insulated copper extension wire.
The series supports replacement probes (without head assembly) and offers a spring-loading option. The spring-loading feature allows the probe to bottom out in a thermowell, providing quicker and more accurate response.
Key Product Differences
The PR-12 series is differentiated by three primary model families based on temperature range capability:
- PR-12L (Low): Designed for the -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F) process temperature range with Class A accuracy.
- PR-12H (High): Covers the -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F) range, offering Class A accuracy from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F), or else Class B.
- PR-12E (Extreme): Supports the widest envelope of -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F) with Class A accuracy from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F), or else Class B.
Model numbers follow the convention PR-12 followed by temperature range, element type, diameter, length, and options (e.g., PR-12L, PR-12H, PR-12E).
