Supported Applications

The Omega FTB-1400 Series consists of liquid turbine flow meters designed for rigorous measurement applications, originally developed for the secondary oil recovery market. These instruments measure fluid flow by rotating a turbine to generate AC voltage pulses via a magnetic pick-up proportional to volumetric flow. The series is suitable for corrosive and abrasive fluids.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FTB-1400 Series operates within specific temperature, pressure, and accuracy envelopes defined by the model size and configuration:

  • Turbine Temperature Range: -101 to 177°C (-150 to 350°F); extended range of -101 to 232°C (-150 to 450°F) with the “HT” option.
  • Pressure Rating: Maximum 5000 psi.
  • Accuracy: ±1% of reading for 1" and larger meters; ±1% of reading over the upper 70% of the measuring range for ½" meters.
  • Repeatability: ±0.1%.
  • Turndown Ratio: 10:1.

The series is calibrated with water and includes a NIST traceable calibration certificate (5-point). Measurement ranges vary by bore size, spanning from 2.3 to 681 LPM (0.6 to 180 GPM) or 20 to 6000 Barrels/Day.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options for end connections, output signals, and temperature ratings across pipe sizes from ½ to 2 inches. Key construction materials include a 316 Stainless Steel body and rotor support, CD4MCU Stainless Steel rotor, and tungsten carbide rotor shaft and journal bearings.

End Connections

  • NPT (standard)
  • BSPP optional (add suffix “BSP” to model number for additional cost)

Output Signal Options

The standard output is an AC voltage pulse generated by a magnetic pick-up. Two specific signal configurations are available via model suffixes:

  • -AMP Suffix: Amplified pulse output (not available on “HT” models).
  • -HT Suffix: High temperature magnetic pulse output, extending the operating range to -101 to 232°C (-150 to 450°F) (not available on “AMP” models).

Cables and Accessories

A cable with a 2-pin connector is required for remote display operation but sold separately. Available accessories include:

  • FTB-1400-CABLE: 3 m (10') cable assembly with 2-pin connector.
  • FTB-1400-90CABLE: 3 m (10') cable assembly with 2-pin 90° connector.
  • FTB-1400-MP: Replacement standard magnetic pick-up.

Key Product Differences

The FTB-1400 Series is differentiated by bore size, end connection type, and output configuration. Model numbers follow the format FTB-XXXX - [End Connection] - [BORE]. For example, model FTB-1411 features a ½ NPT end connection with a 3/8" bore.

Variants are distinguished by their specific flow ranges and K-Factors. The series includes models such as the FTB-1425 (1 NPT, 1" bore) covering 18.9 to 189 LPM with a K-Factor of 870 Pul/Gal, and larger sizes like the FTB-1431 (1½ NPT, 1-1/2" bore) covering 56.8 to 681 LPM.

Selection between standard, amplified (-AMP), or high temperature (-HT) versions depends on process requirements and signal conditioning needs, noting that -AMP and -HT options are mutually exclusive per model number rules.
