Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series WD3 Water Leak Detector is designed to protect equipment from water damage by detecting the presence of water or conductive fluids. Documented applications include drip pans in air handler units (AHUs), areas under raised floors in data centers, and floor locations around sump pumps and drains.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series WD3 detects leaks once fluid reaches a level that bridges the two conductive strips on the bottom of the housing. The minimum sensing gap is 1/32" (0.79 mm). Operating temperature limits are specified as 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C).

Enclosure ratings vary by configuration: audible alarm models are water-tight up to 3/4 of the body height, while non-audible alarm models carry a NEMA 6P (IP 68) submersible rating. The enclosure material is ABS and polycarbonate with flammability classification UL 94 V-0.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable power, output, alarm, and cable options to suit different installation requirements:

Power Supply: Battery powered models use a user-replaceable 3V CR2450 lithium metal battery (estimated life: 5 years steady state / 48 hours during alarm condition). External powered models operate on 24 VAC ±10% or 11-27 VDC.
Output Signal: Battery powered models provide an SPST NO SSR output with a pilot duty rating of 250 mA @ 24 VDC. External powered models feature a DPDT relay rated for 1A @ 24 VAC/DC.
Alarms and Indicators: Audible alarm models produce at least 85 dB @ 1 foot distance (depending on model). Visual indicators include a Red LED for water level, a Yellow LED for low battery (battery powered models only), and a Green LED for power condition (external powered models only).
Cable Length: Standard electrical connections use a 4.9 ft (1.5 m) cable; the WD3-LP-D2-10 model includes a 10 ft (3 m) cable.

All cables are specified as 22 AWG, PVC, UL plenum rated. An optional mounting bracket is available to adjust sensing height and facilitate installation on surfaces such as drip pans or raised floors.

The Series WD3 includes distinct model families based on power source and alarm features:

Battery Powered (WD3-BP-D1-A): Features an SPST NO SSR output, audible alarm, visual indicators for water level and low battery, and a 4.9 ft cable.
External Powered without Audible Alarm (e.g., WD3-LP-D2): Uses a DPDT relay output with no audible alarm; includes power condition indication via Green LED.
External Powered with Audible Alarm (WD3-LP-D2-A): Includes the DPDT relay, audible alarm, and visual indicators for water level and power condition.
Cable Length Variants: Models such as WD3-LP-D2-10 offer extended 10 ft cable lengths compared to the standard 4.9 ft configuration.
