Supported Applications

The Omega OMHW series comprises NEMA size 23, 24, and 34 stepper motors engineered for wet and dusty environments. These IP65-rated units are dust-tight and resistant to low-pressure water jets from any direction, making them suitable for severe environmental conditions in food and beverage industry applications or outdoor use.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 50°C (-4 to 122°F). Mechanical specifications vary by frame size: NEMA 23 (HW23) and NEMA 24 (HW24) models support a maximum radial load of 15 lbs, while the larger NEMA 34 (HW34) supports up to 28 lbs. Maximum thrust loads are rated at 25 lbs for sizes HW23 and HW24, increasing to 50 lbs for size HW34.

Electrical performance is defined by specific model configurations. Minimum holding torque ranges from 153 oz-in (OMHW23-753) up to 1260 oz-in (OMHW34-506). All models feature a step angle of 1.8 degrees and utilize Class B insulation rated for 130°C (266°F).

Configuration Options

The OMHW series offers configurable electrical connections to optimize torque across different speed ranges:

  • NEMA Size 23 Models: Includes models such as OMHW23-598, OMHW23-601, OMHW23-753, and OMHW23-754. These are available with Series (connection 1), Parallel (connection 2), or Unipolar (connection 3) wiring options.
  • NEMA Size 24 Models: The OMHW24-108 is offered in Series and Parallel configurations.
  • NEMA Size 34 Models: Includes OMHW34-506, OMHW34-696. These larger frames support Series, Parallel, or Unipolar connections depending on the specific model number.

All models include an integral 3 m (10') shielded cable with a nickel-plated brass cable gland as standard equipment. Internal construction features sealed laminations, a front shaft contact seal, and a corrosion-resistant film coating to ensure protection against ingress of dust and water jets.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the series are distinguished by frame size (NEMA 23, 24, or 34), motor length, holding torque capacity, and electrical parameters. For example, NEMA 23 models range in minimum holding torque from 158 oz-in to 269 oz-in depending on the specific model number and connection type selected.

Lead wire configurations differ by frame size; NEMA 24 (OMHW24-108) utilizes a 4-wire configuration, whereas most NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 models utilize an 8-wire setup. Optimal drive combinations are specified per model in the documentation, with recommended drives including STR8, ST5, STAC6, and various Si-series controllers depending on the motor's electrical characteristics.
