Supported Applications
The Omega QD-PROBES series consists of Special Application Tip Probes with Quick Disconnect and Integral Handle Styles, designed for handheld meters. These probes are engineered to measure temperature in specific media configurations:
- Penetration Probe (NP): Designed for soft and semi-frozen materials.
- Air Probe (AP): Intended for air measurements.
- Flexible Tip Surface Probe (FSP): Suitable for most surfaces.
- Fast Response Probe (RT): Features a special reduced diameter tip designed for fast response applications.
The series is made in the USA and meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1 standards. OmegaCAL Factory Calibration is available upon request.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Performance ranges vary by probe type, thermocouple calibration, sheath diameter, and environment. The series supports the following documented operating temperature limits:
- Penetration Probes (NP): 0 to 900°C (1650°F).
- Air Probes (AP) & Flexible Tip Surface Probes (FSP): 0 to 870°C (1600°F).
- Fast Response Probes (RT): 0 to 260°C (500°F).
A critical operational constraint applies: subjecting the sensor tip to temperatures above 315°C (600°F) will result in tip damage. The standard probe length is 300 mm (12"). Probe diameters are available in 1.5 mm (¹⁄₁₆"), 3 mm (¹⁄₈"), 4.5 mm (³⁄₁₆"), and 6 mm (¼") configurations.
Materials & Construction
The probes utilize the following wetted materials:
- Sheath Material: 304 SS (Stainless Steel).
- Flexible Tip Surface Probes: RTV silicone rubber.
Configuration Options
The QD-PROBES series offers configurable options for handle style, connector termination, and cable management to accommodate diverse installation needs. The standard electrical connection includes a Quick Disconnect connector with mating connector, cable clamp, and locking clip.
Housing & Handle Options
- SDX Type: ABS plastic handles (Quick Disconnect style).
- HDX Type: Rugged aluminum handles (Integral Handle style).
Cable & Connector Configurations
Probes are supplied with retractable cables that expand to 1.5 m / 5'. Termination options include the SMP Miniature Male Connector, available as Standard/Molded with Strain Relief or SMPW.
Customization & Calibration
- Calibration Types: Specify calibration Type: J, K, E, or T (indicated by the wildcard (*) in model numbers).
- Dimensions: Other lengths and diameters are available; consult Custom Engineering for details.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between two primary handle configurations, each with specific model prefixes documented in the specification tables:
- Quick Disconnect (QD): Models prefixed with QD-, featuring ABS plastic handles and retractable cables.
- Integral Handle (HPS/HDX): Models prefixed with HPS-, featuring rugged aluminum handles. Note that while the series title emphasizes Quick Disconnect probes, Integral Handle variants are documented in the specification tables for Penetration, Fast Response, Flexible Tip Surface, and Air probe types.
Model numbers follow a guide structure of QD---, where denotes NP (Penetration), RT (Fast Response), FSP (Flexible Tip Surface), or AP (Air). The series supports multiple thermocouple types including J, K, E, T, and N as evidenced by the enumerated variants.
