Supported Applications

The Omega EXGG-RSX series provides extension grade thermocouple wires designed for Platinum (-)/Platinum-Rhodium (+) thermocouples, specifically ANSI Type RX and SX. These duplex extension wires are used to extend the signal from a temperature sensor to instrumentation while maintaining compatibility with the specific alloy composition of R and S type sensors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports maximum operating temperatures that vary by insulation material, as defined in the specification tables. Glass Braid insulated wires (EXGG) are rated for a maximum temperature of 200°C (392°F). Neoflon PFA and Neoflon FEP insulations also support up to 200°C (392°F), while Polyvinyl insulation is limited to 105°C (221°F). The series offers conductor sizes in AWG No. 16, 20, and 24 with solid wire construction for the Type RX/SX configurations listed.

ANSI color coding identifies polarity: Positive Wire is Black, Negative Wire is Red, and Overall insulation is Green for Type RX/SX wires. A note in the documentation states that maximum temperature ratings apply to either the extension grade wire or the insulation, whichever is lower.

Configuration Options

The series encompasses a range of configurations defined by insulation type, AWG size, and spool length options.

  • Insulation Types: Glass Braid (EXGG), Neoflon PFA (EXTT), Polyvinyl (EXPP), and Neoflon FEP (EXFF).
  • American Wire Gauge (AWG): Available in 16, 20, and 24 AWG for Type RX/SX.
  • Conductor Construction: Solid wire is specified for the listed Type RX/SX models. Stranded options are documented within the broader family data sheet but not explicitly enumerated as stocked variants in this specific series bundle.
  • Spool Lengths: Variants include lengths such as 25, 100, 200, 30M (meters), 7.5M, 15M, 60M, 150M, and 300M.
  • Special Options: To order special limits of error wire, add "-SLE" to the model number before spool length. IEC color code options are available via omega.com.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the series are primarily distinguished by insulation material and gauge size.

  • Glass Braid (EXGG): Models EXGG-RS-20 and EXGG-RS-24 feature Glass Braid conductor and overall insulation, rated to 200°C.
  • Neoflon PFA (EXTT): Models such as EXTT-RS-20 and EXTT-RS-24 utilize Neoflon PFA for both conductor and overall insulation, also rated to 200°C.
  • Polyvinyl (EXPP): The EXPP-RS-16 model uses Polyvinyl insulation with a lower maximum temperature rating of 105°C.
  • Neoflon FEP (EXFF): Models like EXFF-RS-20 and EXFF-RS-24 use Neoflon FEP, rated to 200°C.
The model number structure generally follows the format: [Insulation Code]-[Type]-[AWG No.], followed by spool length or special option codes (e.g., -SB for specific bundle types seen in variant SKUs).
