Supported Applications

The Omega OST series comprises standard size thermocouple connectors designed for universal female "Fits All" applications. These connectors accept both standard and miniature sized male pins, providing compatibility across a broad range of thermocouple instrumentation. The series supports ANSI color-coded identification to facilitate quick visual verification in the field.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OST series is engineered for two distinct ambient temperature envelopes based on housing material selection:

  • Glass-Filled Nylon (OSTW): -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F). Minor discoloration may occur between 150°C (302°F) and 180°C (356°F), though electrical properties remain unaffected.
  • Liquid Crystal Polymer (HSTW): -29 to 260°C (-20 to 500°F).

The universal female connector features tapered point male contacts capable of accepting stranded or solid wire up to Size 14 AWG. The design includes hollow-pin construction and captive cover screws.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options across alloy types, gender, materials, and accessories:

  • Alloy Codes & Compensating Alloys: Supports Types K (CHROMEGA® / ALOMEGA®), T (Copper / Constantan), J (Iron / Constantan), E (CHROMEGA® / Constantan), R/S (Copper / RNX/SNX), C (CPX / CNX), U (Copper / Copper), and N (OMEGA-P® / OMEGA-N®).
  • Gender: Available in Male (-M) or Female (-F) configurations.
  • Solid Pin Option: Solid pin male connectors are available by adding the suffix '-S' to the model number (e.g., HSTW-K-M-S).
  • Housing Materials: Glass-Filled Nylon for standard temperature ranges; Liquid Crystal Polymer for elevated temperatures up to 260°C.

Additional options and accessories include quick connect contact washers (CW-OST-20, CW-OST-100), silicon strain relief grommets (SR-OST-10, SR-OST-100), removable/reversible write-on windows (WCP-L), transmitters, and ferrite cores for EMI protection (STCTX, PCLM-FT cable clamp).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the OSTW family (Glass-Filled Nylon) and HSTW family (Liquid Crystal Polymer). Model numbers follow the format: OSTW/HSTW - <Alloy Code> - <Compensating Alloy> - <ANSI Color Code> - <Material> - <Gender>. For example, OSTW-K-M denotes a Glass-Filled Nylon Type K Male connector. Note that Type U (uncompensated) connectors are used with Type B thermocouples (Pt/6%Rh-Pt/30%Rh). Certain alloy codes in the Liquid Crystal Polymer series may be restricted to solid pin configurations only, as indicated by specific model availability.
