Supported Applications

The Omega MPP-Series Nozzle Band Heaters are engineered for applications requiring high watt densities and/or high operating temperatures. These heaters feature a specially formulated mineral-insulated tape designed to provide excellent thermal conductivity and dielectric strength within a stainless steel sheath.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports maximum heater sheath temperatures up to 760°C (1400°F). Watt density capabilities vary by construction type and diameter:

  • Nozzle Bands, Under 3" Diameter: Nominal watt densities range from 4.7 to 15.5 Watt/cm² (30 to 100 Watt/in²).
  • Barrel Bands, 3" and Greater in Diameter: Nominal watt densities range from 3.1 to 10.9 Watt/cm² (20 to 70 Watt/in²).

The maximum allowable watt density is listed as 23 Watt/cm² (150 Watt/in²), dependent on heater size, operating temperature, and termination style. Electrical ratings support a maximum voltage of 480 Vac per termination, with dual-voltage availability depending on the configuration.

Configuration Options

The MPP-Series is offered in various construction types to accommodate different installation requirements:

  • Construction Styles: One-piece band, one-piece expandable band, and two-piece band configurations are available.
  • Termination Options: Heaters feature either screw terminals (Type T2 or Type T3X) or lead wire terminations (Type W2). The Terminator Program offers Type W2 termination with right-angle wire braid leads. Screw terminal versions include stainless steel power screw terminals resistant to over-torquing and unique Igloo ceramic covers.
  • Dimensions: Standard widths range from 25.4 to 203.2 mm (1 to 8"). Inside diameters are available up to 635.0 mm (25") for two-piece construction; one-piece and expandable constructions support inside diameters up to 355.6 mm (14").
  • Clamping Mechanisms: Clamping brackets formed from the outer sheath utilize barrel nuts and socket head screws.

Note: For heaters less than 102 mm (4") in diameter, the maximum width is twice the diameter. Post terminals are only available on heaters greater than 64 mm (2½") in diameter and 38 mm (1½") in width.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the series differ by inner dimension, width, wattage, voltage, construction style, and terminal type. Model numbers follow a guide format: MPP - - - - - . Specific configurations include:

  • Nozzle Band Heaters (Terminator Program): Models such as MPP50101 and MPP55051 feature lead wire terminations with specific watt densities ranging from 6.3 to 14.5 Watt/cm².
  • Screw Terminal Terminations: Models like MPP00230 through MPP00261 utilize Type T2 or T3X screw terminals, offering voltages of 120V, 240V, or dual voltage (240/480).
  • Construction Codes: Variants are designated by construction style codes such as "WB" (likely one-piece), "LB", and "OB" in the Terminator Program tables, while screw terminal variants specify styles like "1 pc" or "Exp".
