Supported Applications
The Omega TQ502A series comprises socket extension rotary torque sensors designed for measuring the torque of various fastening applications. These square drive interface sensors are also used to measure the performance of electric drive motors, small DC motors, clutches, and fans where a square drive connection is preferred.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TQ502A series operates within an ambient temperature range of -55 to 120°C (-65 to 250°F), with a compensated temperature range of 21 to 75°C (70 to 167°F). Performance specifications include linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability each rated at ±0.1% FS or better depending on the specific parameter. The sensors feature an overload capacity of 150% FS and a maximum rotational speed of 5000 rpm.
Thermal effects are specified as ±0.002% FS/°F for zero shift and ±0.002% rdg/°F for span shift. The bridge resistance is 1000 Ω, with a rated output ranging from 1.5 to 3 mV/V nominal (calibration sheet provided). Excitation voltage must not exceed 20 Vdc.
Configuration Options
The series offers six distinct capacity ranges paired with specific square drive sizes and electrical outputs:
- TQ502A-50 & TQ502A-125: ¼" square drive; capacities of 50 in-lb (4 ft lb, 6 Nm) and 125 in-lb (10 ft lb, 14 Nm); output 2.0 mV/V.
- TQ502A-200 & TQ502A-600: ³⁄₈" square drive; capacities of 200 in-lb (16 ft lb, 23 Nm) and 600 in-lb (50 ft lb, 68 Nm); outputs are 1.5 mV/V and 3.0 mV/V respectively.
- TQ502A-1.5K & TQ502A-2.4K: ½" square drive; capacities of 1500 in-lb (125 ft lb, 170 Nm) and 2400 in-lb (200 ft lb, 271 Nm); output 3.0 mV/V.
Electrical connections utilize a PT02E-12-10P connector with the mating connector supplied. The sensor construction features an alloy steel sensing element and an alloy aluminum housing. Available options include a mounting foot (-MB) suffix and a 1024 ppr angle encoder option (-EN1024).
Key Product Differences
Variants within the TQ502A series are distinguished by their torque capacity, which dictates the square drive size (¼", ³⁄₈", or ½") and the nominal output signal. The physical dimensions vary across capacities: models with ¼" drives measure X: 95 mm (3.75 in), Y: 9.7 mm (0.38 in), Z: 89 mm (3.5 in); ³⁄₈" drive models are X: 101 mm (3.97 in), Y: 12 mm (0.48 in), Z: 91 mm (3.6 in); and ½" drive models measure X: 108 mm (4.26 in), Y: 15 mm (0.58 in), Z: 94 mm (3.7 in).
Extraneous load coefficients differ by model to account for off-axis forces and moments, with specific values provided for each capacity range. The series is compatible with DP41-S, DP25B-S, and MDS-41S meters.
