Supported Applications
The Omega Small Diameter RTD Probes series provides fine diameter Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) solutions designed for applications requiring faster response times due to reduced physical mass. The series includes the PR-11 transition junction probe, PR-13 and PR-17 quick disconnect probes with standard or miniature connectors respectively, and the PR-16 utility handle probe.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series utilizes 100 Ω DIN Platinum sensors conforming to IEC CLASS A accuracy per IEC 60751. The specified accuracy is ±0.15°C @ 0°C with a European curve α = 0.00385. Probes are available in two diameters: 1/16" (actual sheath diameter 0.064" ± 0.003") and 1.5 mm (actual sheath diameter 1.5 mm ± 0.075 mm). The wetted material is a 316 SS sheath.
Standard insertion lengths are offered in inches: 6, 12, 18, and 24". Metric dimensions offer standard lengths of 150, 300, 450, and 600 mm. The minimum sheath length for any style probe is 4" (Standard) or 100 mm (Metric). Intermediate lengths are available at the price of the next longer standard probe; probes over 24" (Standard) or 600 mm (Metric) require consultation with Custom Engineering.
Due to their smaller physical size, these probes are more fragile than larger diameter versions. The documentation explicitly states that both 1/16" and 1.5 mm dia RTD probes cannot be bent. Users must avoid subjecting the probes to bending, flexing, or vibration.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple lead styles and termination configurations:
- PR-11 Series: Transition junction probe with 1 m (40") PFA insulated leads; strip end termination is standard. Additional lead length requires consultation with the Sales Department.
- PR-13 Series: Quick disconnect probe including a mating connector in standard size.
- PR-17 Series: Quick disconnect probe including a mating connector in miniature size.
- PR-16 Series: Utility handle probe configuration.
Connector options include adding the suffix “MTP” for a miniature connector or “OTP” for a standard size connector (additional cost applies). The series is also available with PFA coating. Custom Engineering supports 4-wire configurations and type 3 lead styles, as well as stainless steel overbraid for the lead wire.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between models lies in the housing style and termination method defined by the series number (PR-11 through PR-17). The model numbering convention follows the pattern: PR-<Series>-<Lead Style>-<Resistance>-<Diameter>-<Length>-E. For example, a standard 2-wire probe with 100 Ω resistance and 1/16" diameter is designated as PR-XX-2-100-1/16-(*)-E for inch lengths or PR-XX-2-100-M15-(*)-E for metric lengths.
Lead style variations include standard strip ends (PR-11) and quick disconnect options with either standard size connectors (PR-13) or miniature size connectors (PR-17). The utility handle configuration is specific to the PR-16 Series. All listed variants utilize a 2-wire lead style in the provided specification tables.
