Supported Applications

The Omega CNI-CB120/240 Series consists of self-contained temperature control panels designed for light industrial use and applications requiring temperature measurement and process control. These units feature a microprocessor-based controller with On/Off, PID, and Ramp/Soak functions to manage thermal processes or general signal inputs.

The series is intended for indoor, dry environments only. The product documentation explicitly states that these panels are not designed for human, medical, nuclear, or other safety-critical applications. They must not be operated in flammable or explosive environments and should not be exposed to excessive moisture or rain.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CNI-CB120/240 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 151°F). The units are powered by a 120V or 240V Vac supply and contain hazardous voltages internally. Installation, troubleshooting, inspection, and maintenance must be performed only by qualified personnel with power disconnected.

Input capabilities include Type K thermocouple (factory configured) as well as configurable support for RTD, voltage, or current signals via an M-12 female input connection. The series supports process measurement ranges of 0 to 1V, 0 to 10V, and 4 to 20 mA.

Physical dimensions are 305 mm H x 254 mm W x 152 mm D (12 x 10 x 6"), with a weight of 9.07 kg (20 lb). The enclosure is constructed from hinged metal and includes an internal cabinet cooling fan.

Output Configuration

The series provides one 25 A SSR controlled output equipped with a Series 30 Amp Contactor for Emergency Off functionality. Each unit ships complete with fuses, including one 1 A control fuse and one 25 A output fuse.

Configuration Options

The CNI-CB120/240 series offers configurable options across voltage supply, thermocouple calibration types, and communication interfaces. The model number structure follows the pattern: CNI-CB<VOLTAGE>-<THERMOCOUPLE_TYPE>-<ETHERNET_OPTION>.

Power Supply Options

  • 120 Vac: Models designated with "CB120" (e.g., CNI-CB120-K).
  • 240 Vac: Models designated with "CB240" (e.g., CNI-CB240-J-EI).

Sensor Input Configurations

The series supports multiple thermocouple types by changing the suffix in the model number. While factory configured for Type K, users can select:

  • Type J (e.g., CNI-CB120-J)
  • Type T (e.g., CNI-CB120-T)
  • Type E
  • Type N
  • Type R
  • Type S

In addition to thermocouple inputs, the M-12 female connection allows for RTD or process signal input.

Communication and Accessories

  • Ethernet Control: Models with the "-EI" suffix include optional Ethernet control with a built-in web server (e.g., CNI-CB120-K-EI).
  • M12 Field Mountable Option: The M12-S-M-FM option provides an M12 field mountable 4-pin connector with terminal lugs for wire connection.

Safety and Compliance

The series carries EN61010-1 certification. Units are not NEMA rated and must be kept out of reach of children. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the device; attempting to repair or service the unit may void the warranty.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the CNI-CB120-K-Series differ primarily by voltage rating, thermocouple calibration type, and the inclusion of Ethernet connectivity. The base model number indicates the power supply (CB120 for 120 Vac, CB240 for 240 Vac) followed by a letter indicating the primary sensor input or configuration.

Models ending in "-EI" denote the addition of an Ethernet interface with a built-in web server. The series includes specific model numbers such as CNI-CB120-K, CNI-CB240-J-EI, and CNI-CB120-T to represent these distinct configurations.

Note: Documentation indicates that the "CNI-CB120-J" description in some tables may list 'K calibration' instead of 'J calibration,' which appears as a typographical error; however, the model naming convention implies J-type thermocouple support for models ending in -J.
