Supported Applications
The Omega PR-10-BX series consists of RTD probes featuring insulated wire and BX armored cable, engineered for resistance to abrasion and snagging in processes where the lead wire encounters sharp objects or is subject to continual movement. The product overview identifies specific applications including liquid immersion, slurries and emulsions, granular material measurements, as well as temperature monitoring of heat bars, kilns, and pipes. These probes are suited for both process and laboratory temperature measurements.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series offers three distinct model families covering different operating envelopes: PR-10L (Low), PR-10H (High), and PR-10E (Extreme). Process temperature ranges are documented as -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F) for the Low range, -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F) for the High range, and -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F) for the Extreme range. Accuracy is specified as Class A across all models, with specific ranges noted: PR-10H provides Class A from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F), or else Class B; PR-10E provides Class A from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F), or else Class B. All models utilize a nominal resistance of 100 Ω and 1000 Ω at 0°C standard with TCR = 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C.
Response time (T90) varies by probe diameter and model family. For the PR-10L, response times are 2.4 sec for 1/8", 2.8 sec for 3/16", and 3.25 sec for 1/4" diameters. The PR-10H lists 2.8 sec (1/8"), 4.11 sec (3/16"), and 5.41 sec (1/4"). The PR-10E Extreme range shows slower response: 9 sec (1/8"), 9.8 sec (3/16"), and 10.6 sec (1/4"). Mechanical ratings include Vibration per IEC 60068-2-6; 5 to 2000 Hz sweep rate, one active per minute; 10 sweep cycles; acceleration 5g (15 probes tested together) Duration: 1 day. Shock rating is IEC 60068-2-27; 50g/11ms (15 probes tested together) Duration: 1 day.
Configuration Options
The PR-10-BX series supports configurable dimensions and terminations. Probe diameters are available in 1/8", 3/16", and 1/4" sizes. Insertion lengths include 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 inches. The standard wire length is 40 inches; longer lengths may be built using the configurator.
Key configurable attributes include:
- Sensor Element: PT100 or PT1000 RTD (Nominal Resistance and Curve: 100 Ω and 1000 Ω at 0°C standard).
- Sheath Material: PFA with Armor.
- Ingress Protection: IP67 for all models.
- Wire Termination Max Temp: Varies by model: PR-10L is 100°C (212°F); PR-10H and PR-10E are 250°C (482°F).
- Lead Wire Termination: Standard stripped ends; other terminations may be configured.
The series supports various connector terminations available using the Omega configurator. The probe shown in documentation is with an -MTP mini connector, but this is not a fixed requirement for all variants.
Key Product Differences
Differences within the PR-10-BX series are defined by temperature range capability and associated performance metrics:
- PR-10L (Low): Covers -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F). Features Class A accuracy. Wire termination max temp is limited to 100°C (212°F).
- PR-10H (High): Covers -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F). Accuracy is Class A from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F), or else Class B. Wire termination max temp supports up to 250°C (482°F).
- PR-10E (Extreme): Covers -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F). Accuracy is Class A from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F), or else Class B. Wire termination max temp supports up to 250°C (482°F).
Model numbering follows the pattern PR-10-<TEMP RANGE> - <ELEMENT> - <DIAMETER> - <LENGTH> - <WIRE LENGTH> - <CONNECTOR>. An example provided is PR-10E-3-100-E/16-12-BX-MTP, representing a 100 Ω, Class “A” RTD with Extreme temp range (-50 to 450°C), 1/8" probe diameter, 6 inch length, and MTP mini connector.
