Supported Applications
The Omega CDH-287-KIT is a portable, microprocessor-based conductivity meter designed to measure conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), resistivity, salinity, concentration, and temperature with automatic temperature compensation. The series supports applications across varying water qualities based on the selected cell constant: pure demineralized, distilled, or boiler-fed water; surface or wastewater-diluted salt solutions, fertilizers, and electroplating rinses; and concentrated salt solutions including sea water.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The meter features auto-ranging capabilities across multiple scales. Conductivity ranges span from 0.00 to 19.99 µS/cm or 1.999 mS/cm up to 000 to 1999 mS/cm or 199.9 mS/m. Resistivity measurements cover 0 to 1.999 MΩ/cm (or 0.019 MΩ/m) and 0 to 19.99 MΩ/cm (or 0.199 MΩ/m). TDS ranges include 0 to 19.99 mg/L through 0 to 132.0 g/L, while salinity is measured from 2.0 to 42.0% using automatic conversion based on UNESCO and IASPO data for seawater temperature relationships.
Accuracy specifications are ±0.3% of reading (rdg) for conductivity, TDS, resistivity, and salinity modes. Temperature accuracy is specified as ±0.3°C (0.5°F). The instrument operates with a measurement frequency of 3000 Hz and provides automatic temperature compensation from -2.0 to 35°C (28.4 to 95°F) for salinity, or 0 to 50°C (32 to 212°F) for conductivity.
Physical dimensions are listed as 100 L x 180 W x 44 mm D (3.9 x 7.1 x 1.7") with a weight of 410 g (0.9 lb). The unit is powered by an included 9V battery and features a 12.7 mm (0.5") LCD display.
Configuration Options
The CDH-287-KIT series offers configurable probe options to match specific conductivity ranges and media conditions. Available accessories include dip-style probes, flow cells, and replacement batteries with varying cell constants (K), electrode materials, and body constructions.
- Probe Types: Glass dip-style, polymer dip-style, epoxy dip-style, glass flow cell, and epoxy flow cell configurations are available as options or replacements.
- Cell Constants: Options include K = 0.1, K = 1.0, and K = 10 to accommodate ranges from pure water (>100 µS) to concentrated salt solutions (Over 100 mS).
- Electrode Materials: Probes are offered with platinum plates or carbon (graphite) plates; carbon probes are noted as easier to clean and recommended when suspended solids are present.
- Outputs & Communication: The meter provides a recorder output of ±200.0 mV and an RS232 interface for data logging.
- Included Kit Contents: The standard CDH-287-KIT includes the meter, a glass dip-style conductivity probe with integral temperature sensor (K = 1.0), carrying case, sample bottle, calibration solution, and operator's manual.
Key Product Differences
The primary variation within this series is defined by the accessory probes selected for specific measurement ranges. The standard kit ships with a glass dip-style probe (K=1.0) suitable for surface or wastewater-diluted salt solutions, fertilizers, and electroplating rinses.
- Low Conductivity: For pure demineralized, distilled, or boiler-fed water (>100 µS), options include the CDE-5014-GD01 (Glass dip-style, K=0.1) and CDE-5013-EF01 (Epoxy flow cell, K=0.1).
- High Conductivity: For concentrated salt solutions or sea water (>100 mS), options include the CDE-5004-ED10 and CDE-5008-EF10 (Epoxy dip-style/flow cell, K=10).
- Material Selection: Users may choose between glass bodies with platinum plates or epoxy/polymer bodies with carbon plates depending on the presence of suspended solids.
