DPDS-Series

Supported Applications

The Omega DPDS Series consists of pneumatic dual motion grippers designed for material handling and automation tasks. These short-stroke parallel grippers feature a one-piece lightweight aircraft quality aluminum body and are engineered to be mounted and operated in any orientation. The series is intended for applications requiring precise positioning with an accuracy of ±0.05 mm (±0.002") and repeatability of ±0.03 mm (±0.001").

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DPDS Series operates within a pressure range of 1.5 to 7 bar (20 to 100 psi) and an ambient temperature range of -35 to 80°C (30 to 180°F). Proper operation requires a 4-way, 2-position valve and an air supply filter rated at 40 micron or better. In typical applications, the grippers are rated for up to 5 million cycles; with maintenance, this extends to up to 10 million cycles.

Loading capacities vary by model size (DPDS-047M through DPDS-125M) and mounting configuration. Static tensile loads range from 134 N (30 lb) for the DPDS-047M to 2,225 N (500 lb) for the DPDS-125M. Dynamic tensile capacities correspondingly range from 27 N (6 lb) to 289 N (65 lbs). Moment loads are specified separately for axes Mx, My, and Mz.

• DPDS-047M: Static Tensile 134 N (30 lb); Dynamic Tensile 27 N (6 lb).
• DPDS-056M: Static Tensile 267 N (60 lb); Dynamic Tensile 45 N (10 lb).
• DPDS-088M: Static Tensile 614 N (138 lb); Dynamic Tensile 111 N (25 lb).
• DPDS-125M: Static Tensile 2,225 N (500 lb); Dynamic Tensile 289 N (65 lbs).

Note: Capacities are per set of jaws and are not simultaneous. Do not exceed maximum effective finger lengths.

Configuration Options

The series is available in four sizes: DPDS-047M, DPDS-056M, DPDS-088M, and DPDS-125M. Each size supports multiple stroke lengths to accommodate different gripping requirements.

Stroke Lengths

• DPDS-047M: 2.4 mm (0.09") or 3.2 mm (0.13").
• DPDS-056M: 3.2 mm (0.13") or 4.8 mm (0.19").
• DPDS-088M: 4.8 mm (0.19") or 6.4 mm (0.25").
• DPDS-125M: 4.8 mm (0.19") or 6.4 mm (0.25").

Sensors and Accessories

The grippers feature full range adjustable magneto resistive sensors. Available sensor options include PNP and NPN types with quick disconnects, offered in various configurations such as OHSP-011 (90°) or OHSN-017.

• DPDS-047M: 62 N (14 lb).
• DPDS-056M: 98 N (22 lb).

Weighing and Dimensions

Gripper weights range from 0.04 kg (0.086 lb) for the DPDS-047M to 0.46 kg (1.03 lb) for the DPDS-125M.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the series is the model size, which dictates grip force, loading capacity, and weight. The "B" suffix in a model number indicates the bottom jaw mounting option, which alters static and dynamic load ratings compared to standard top/back mounting.

Model Number Structure

The ordering format follows the pattern: DPDS-M--B-V. For example, DPDS-056M-019-B-V represents a size 056M gripper with a 4.8 mm (0.19") stroke and bottom jaw mounting.

Mounting Configurations

The series offers multiple mounting locations on the top and back, as well as air port locations to facilitate flexible installation in various orientations. The "-B" variant specifically provides a bottom jaw mounting configuration with reduced moment capacities compared to standard configurations.
