Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 616W Differential Pressure Transmitter is designed to sense the pressure of air and non-combustible, compatible gases. The series measures positive, negative, and differential pressures within factory-calibrated ranges. Documented applications include dust collection systems, outdoor HVAC environments, and roof-top equipment.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 616W operates in ambient temperatures from -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C). The unit is housed in a polycarbonate enclosure rated NEMA 4X (IP66) and can be mounted in any orientation. Performance specifications include:

  • Accuracy: ±0.25% FS @ 77°F (25°C); display accuracy of ±0.5%
  • Stability: ±1% FS/yr
  • Thermal Effect: ±0.02% FS/°F (±0.036% FS/°C)
  • Response Time: Instantaneous (default) or 3 s (selectable via DIP switch)

The transmitter supports measurement ranges from 0 to 1 in w.c. up to 0 to 25 kPa, including bidirectional spans such as 3-0-3 in w.c., 5-0-5 in w.c., and 10-0-10 in w.c. Maximum pressure limits vary by model range; for example, the 0 to 6 in w.c. range lists a maximum of 4.5 psig, while the 0 to 200 in w.c. range supports up to 45 psig.

Power and Electrical Specifications

The series offers flexible power configurations depending on output type:

  • Current Output (2-wire): 10-36 VDC; Loop resistance 0 to 1250 Ω max.
  • Voltage Output (3-wire): 17-36 VDC or isolated 21.6-33 VAC; Minimum load resistance 1 kΩ.
  • Current Consumption: 21 mA max continuous.

Electrical connections utilize a 4-wire removable European style terminal block for 16 to 26 AWG wire. Process connections feature barbed fittings compatible with 1/8" and 3/16" (3.12 and 4.76 mm) I.D. rubber or vinyl tubing.

Configuration Options

The Series 616W is available in multiple configurations to address specific installation needs:

  • Output Signals: Selectable 4-20 mA (2-wire), 0-5 VDC (3-wire), or 0-10 VDC (3-wire).
  • Display Options: Models with an LCD display provide local pressure indication and error messages; non-LCD models rely on remote signal monitoring.
  • Ranges: Available in inch water column (in w.c.) and kilopascal (kPa) units. Metric ranges are identified by model numbers containing "M".
  • Bidirectional Ranges: Specific models support negative-to-positive spans, such as 3-0-3 in w.c., 5-0-5 in w.c., and 10-0-10 in w.c.

The series includes zero and span adjustments via digital push-buttons for calibration checks. These controls are not intended for re-ranging to significantly different spans. An optional NIST traceable calibration certificate is available by adding the "-NIST" suffix to the model number.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the Series 616W differ primarily by measurement range, output signal type, and display presence. Models are designated with a numeric code corresponding to their specific pressure span (e.g., "-2" for 0 to 6 in w.c.). The addition of "LCD" indicates models equipped with a digital readout.

Models ending in "B" denote bidirectional ranges, while those containing "M" indicate metric units. For example:

  • 616W-2-LCD: 0 to 6 in w.c., with LCD display
  • 616W-6B-LCD: 3-0-3 in w.c. bidirectional range, with LCD display
  • 616W-2M-LCD: 0 to 1.5 kPa metric range, with LCD display

The unit is not field serviceable; repair requires return to the factory. Wetted materials should be confirmed by consulting the manufacturer.
