Supported Applications

The Omega D5000 Series OMEGABUS® modules are four-channel analog-to-digital interface units designed for data acquisition systems based on personal computers and other processor-based equipment with standard serial I/O ports. These devices convert analog input signals into engineering units and transmit the data in ASCII format via RS-485 or RS-232C interfaces.

Documented measurement types include voltage, current, thermocouple temperature (Types J, K, T, E), and 2252Ω thermistor inputs. The modules perform signal conditioning, scaling, linearization, and conversion without requiring engineering experience for setup.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The D5000 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C with a storage temperature capability from -25 to 85°C. Humidity ratings are specified as 0 to 95% non-condensing.

Performance specifications vary by input type:

  • Voltage/Current Inputs: Accuracy is ±0.01% of FS (4 digits) or ±0.02% of FS max, with a specific accuracy of ±0.04% of FS for 4-20 mA input.
  • Thermistor Inputs: Typical overall accuracy from 0 to 40°C ambient is ±1.0°C; thermistor-specific accuracy is listed as ±0.1°C.

The modules feature a 15-bit measurement resolution and include continuous self-calibration with no adjustments needed via pots or switches. Power requirements are an unregulated supply of +10 to +30 Vdc, consuming a maximum of 0.75W.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple input configurations and communication protocols through distinct model numbers. All units utilize screw terminal plug connectors supplied with the module and feature an ABS housing with captive hardware for mounting.

Input Types:

  • Voltage: ±100 mV, ±1 V, ±5 V, ±10 V, ±100 V
  • Current: 4-20 mA
  • Thermocouples: Type J (-200 to 760°C), Type K (-150 to 1250°C), Type T (-200 to 400°C), and Type E (-100 to 1000°C)
  • Thermistor: 0 to 100°C (2252Ω Thermistor)

Communication & Configuration:

  • Output interfaces are available as RS-485 or RS-232C.
  • The modules support an ASCII Format Command/Response Protocol for reading data, setup parameters (baud rate, address, parity), and identification via EEPROM storage.
  • To order modules with Modbus RTU protocol, the suffix 'M' is added to the model number.

System Integration:

  • The D5000 series can be daisy-chained for up to 30 modules on one set of wires using RS-485 with repeaters.
  • Compatible accessories include the A1000 and A2000 RS-232 to RS-485 converters/repeaters, along with specific cabling options (A1000-CABLE, D1000-C9).

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models in the series is the input type and communication interface. Model numbers follow a pattern where odd-ending digits typically denote RS-232C output (e.g., D5111, D5451) while even-ending digits denote RS-485 output (e.g., D5112, D5452).

Specific model families include:

  • D51xx Series: Voltage inputs ranging from 100 mV to 100 V.
  • D52xx Series: Current input (4-20 mA).
  • D53xx Series: Thermocouple inputs for Types J, K, T, and E.
  • D54xx Series: 2252Ω Thermistor input.

The series is compatible with D1000, D2000, D3000, and D4000 series modules. Each unit includes a CD ROM containing the operator's manual and Windows setup software.
