Supported Applications

The Omega OMEGACLAD™ RTD MI Cable series provides rugged mineral-insulated sensor cable solutions for Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) applications. The product line encompasses two primary configurations: 4-wide and 6-conductor cables, as well as 2-, 3-, and 4-conductor extension MI cables.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series utilizes uncompensated Nickel 201 conductors with 99.4% high purity MgO insulation within a standard 316 Stainless Steel sheath. Specific dimensional parameters for the standard configuration include:

  • Cable OD: 6.3 mm (0.250") ± 0.02 mm (0.001")
  • Sheath Thickness: 0.86 mm (0.034") ± 0.08 mm (0.003")
  • Conductor Diameter: 0.63 mm (0.025") ± 0.08 mm (0.003")
  • Conductor Bolt Circle: 3.43 mm (0.135") ±10%

The series supports exceptionally long lengths in stock, with discount schedules available for quantities ranging from 0 to 3 m (0 to 10') up to 15.1 to 30 m (51 to 100').

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configurability across sheath materials, conductor types, and geometric arrangements.

Sheath Materials

  • Standard: 316 Stainless Steel (denoted as "316" in model numbers)
  • Available Options: Inconel® 600 (inserted as "-INC"), 304 SS, 310 SS, and 321 SS

Conductor Configurations

  • Nickel 201: Standard uncompensated conductors (default in model numbers)
  • Copper: Available by inserting "-CU" into the model number (e.g., 316-RTD-4WCU-MO-250)

Conductor Counts and Arrangements

  • Extension Cables: 2, 3, or 4 conductors in standard circular spacing.
  • Wide Spacing (4-wide): Designated with "-W" suffix for specific applications requiring wide conductor separation.
  • Six Conductor Options: Available as a circle arrangement (-6) or European/equal spacing configuration designated by inserting "-E" into the model number (e.g., 316-RTD-6E-MO-6.0MM).

Dimensions and Sizes

The series is offered in both inch and metric sheath diameters, including but not limited to:

  • Inch sizes: 0.250", 0.188", 0.125", 0.062", and 0.040"
  • Metric sizes: 6.0MM, 4.5MM, 3.0MM, 1.5MM, and 1.0MM

Wire diameter specifications vary by sheath size; for example, the 6.0 mm 6-conductor metric cable lists a wire diameter of 0.79 mm.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard extension cables and specialized wide-spacing or multi-conductor configurations through specific model number syntax:

  • Standard Extension Cables: Model numbers follow the format 316-RTD-[CONDUCTORS]-MO-[DIAMETER], supporting 2, 3, and 4 conductors.
  • Wide Spacing (4-wide): Identified by a "W" in the conductor section of the model number (e.g., -4W-), available with Nickel 201 or Copper (-CU) conductors.
  • Six Conductor Configurations: Standard circular spacing uses "6", while European/equal spacing is designated as "6E" in the model string.
