Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series MSX Magnesense® Differential Pressure Transmitter monitors differential pressure in building control applications. Documented uses include filter monitoring in air handler units, building pressure management in clean rooms, duct static pressure measurement, and air velocity or flow calculation in VAV systems.

  • Filter monitoring
  • Clean room building pressure
  • Duct static pressure
  • Air velocity/flow in VAV systems

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series MSX measures differential pressure for air and non-combustible, compatible gases. The transmitter operates within an ambient temperature range of -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C). Accuracy is specified as ±1% FSO with stability rated at ±1% FSO/year.

Pressure limits vary by selected range: Ranges 0 and 1 support a maximum operating pressure of 3.6 psi with a burst rating of 6 psi; Ranges 2, 3, and 4 support a maximum operating pressure of 6 psi with a burst rating of 6 psi. The response time is instantaneous by default or selectable up to 3 s (configurable up to 30 s when equipped with an LCD). Power consumption is DC: 0.5 W or AC: 0.5 VA.

Configuration Options

Housing and Mounting Options

  • Wall mount (-W)
  • Universal wall/duct mount (-U, -Y for square housing)
  • DIN rail mount (-N, -Z for square housing)
  • Square Housing Wall mount (-S)

Process and Electrical Connections

The transmitter accepts process connections via 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5 mm, or 6 mm ID flexible tubing. The electrical entry is a 1/2" NPS thread with a 4-position removable terminal block for 16 to 26 AWG wire (optional toolless terminal block available).

Output Signals and Communication

  • Analog: 4-20 mA (2-wire), 0-10 V or 0-5 V selectable (3-wire)
  • Dual Output: Simultaneous Current and Voltage output supported
  • Communication Protocols: BACnet MS/TP, Modbus® RTU via TIA/EIA-485

Sensor Ranges and Modes

The series offers 32 configurable pressure ranges available in unidirectional or bidirectional modes. Pressure units include inches of water column (in w.c.), Pascals (Pa), and millimeters of water column (mm w.c.). The transmitter calculates linear pressure, velocity, or flow using square root extraction.

Approvals and Ratings

  • NEMA 4X (IP66)
  • UL 2043 (Plenum)
  • UL94 V-0
  • BTL Listed, CE Marked

Key Product Differences

The Series MSX is distinguished by its mounting configuration and output capabilities. Models are available with a standard round housing or an optional square housing for specific DIN rail applications. The Universal model (-U) can function as a wall-mount transmitter; before mounting, the included plug must be inserted into the duct probe port.

Communication-enabled models (option code -COM) support BACnet MS/TP and Modbus® RTU protocols with configurable baud rates from 9600 to 115200. Models equipped with an optional LCD display feature a rotatable 180° screen for easier reading; the display must be removed before wiring.

Wetted materials are not specified in the documentation and require consultation with the factory. The transmitter is not field serviceable, and repair requires return to the manufacturer.
