Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series MAFS Metal Averaging Flow Sensor is designed for accurate duct air velocity measurement in HVAC systems. The sensor uses evenly distributed total and static pressure measuring points to deliver an accurate measurement of flows within a duct. It is intended for use with clean air media.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series MAFS operates across a flow range of 400 to 9,000 FPM (45.7 m/s), with a minimum design flow of 400 FPM (2 m/s) and a maximum design flow of 12,000 fpm (60.96 m/sec). The sensor is rated for process temperatures up to 400°F (204°C).
Accuracy specifications are ±2% FS across the standard range, with ±3% FS specified for 6" (160 mm) and 48" (1200 mm) length models. The K-Factor varies by probe length: 0.81 is listed generally; specific values include 0.80 for 6" (160 mm) and 48" lengths, and 0.82 for the 4" model.
Installation requires a straight run of 5 diameters or longest side dimensions upstream of the sensor. For rectangular ducts, probe quantity depends on short duct dimension: one probe is required for ducts less than 12" (<305 mm), two probes for 12" - 23" (610 mm - 889 mm) ranges are not explicitly defined in the table but follow the progression of three probes for 24" - 35" and four probes for 36" - 48" ducts.
Configuration Options
The series is constructed from lightweight aluminum with wetted materials specified as Aluminum AA6063. The sensor features a flange mount suitable for rectangular or square duct installations and includes dual barb connections compatible with 3/16" or 1/4" ID tubing.
Probe Lengths
The Series MAFS is available in multiple probe lengths to accommodate various duct sizes. Models are designated by length in inches (e.g., MAFS-04 through MAFS-48) or millimeters (e.g., MAFS-100MM through MAFS-2000MM). Available inch-based models include 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 40 inches. Millimeter-based models range from 100 mm to 2000 mm.
Compliance
The product meets the technical requirements of EU Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS II).
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series MAFS differ primarily by probe insertion length, which determines suitability for specific duct dimensions. The model number follows the format MAFS-, where the suffix indicates either inches or millimeters (e.g., MAFS-100MM). Accuracy and K-Factor values vary based on these lengths; specifically, 6" (160 mm) and 48" models have a ±3% FS accuracy rating compared to the standard ±2% FS.
The sensor is not field serviceable. If repair is needed, units must be returned with a Return Goods Authorization number after contacting customer service.
