Supported Applications
The Omega GMP and HGMP series are low-noise, miniature thermocouple connectors designed for the easy connection of ground wires to OMEGA™ probes and extension wires. These connectors provide a superior mechanical connection intended to prevent signal loss due to vibration or wire movement.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series offers two housing material options with distinct ambient temperature ratings:
- GMP (Glass-Filled Nylon): Rated for -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F).
- HGMP (Liquid Crystal Polymer): Rated for -29 to 260°C (-20 to 500°F).
Electrically, the connectors accept stranded or solid wire up to size 20 AWG. The internal hardware crimps and holds in place the drain wire of a 20 AWG twisted shield cable or the shield of overbraided wire. An external ground strap maintains electrical connection of the ground wire and strengthens the mechanical link between connectors.
Dimensions
- GMP/HGMP Female: Height: 16.8 mm (0.66 in), Length: 36.6 mm (1.44 in), Width: 7.9 mm (0.31 in).
- GMP/HGMP Male: Height: 16.8 mm (0.66 in), Length: 31.8 mm (1.25 in), Width: 7.9 mm (0.31 in).
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple thermocouple types, each with specific compensating alloys and ANSI color-coded shells:
- Type K: CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™ (Yellow shell).
- Type T: Copper-Constantan (Blue shell).
- Type J: Iron-Constantan (Black shell).
- Type E: CHROMEGA-Constantan (Purple shell).
- Type R/S: Pt/13%Rh-Pt (Green shell). Note: HGMP-R/S uses Copper and RNX/SNX compensating alloys.
- Type C: W/5% Re-W/26%Re with CPX/CNX compensating alloys (Red shell).
- Type U: Uncompensated, using Copper for both terminals. Type U connector bodies are used with Type B thermocouples (Pt/6%Rh-Pt/30%Rh) (White shell).
- Type N: OMEGALLOY™ (OMEGA-P™ and OMEGA-N™ compensating alloys, Orange shell). Note: HGMP uses OMEGALLOY with OMEGA-P and OMEGA-N.
To order, specify "-M" for male connector only or "-F" for female connector only. Each connector is supplied with a write-on window for the face and side.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between series members is the housing material (GMP vs. HGMP) which dictates the maximum operating temperature, alongside the thermocouple type compatibility defined by alloy composition and shell color.
- GMP Series: Glass-Filled Nylon construction; lower temperature limit of 180°C (356°F).
- HGMP Series: Liquid Crystal Polymer construction; higher temperature limit of 260°C (500°F). Includes specific compensating alloy variations for Type R/S connectors.
Optional accessories include replaceable write-on windows and inserts. The ground strap option replaces the side window to maintain electrical connection through the connector:
- HCP-S / WCP-S: Write-on or replaceable write-on windows for HGMP/GMP connector face.
- HCP-HGMP / WCP-GMP: Write-on window or insert for HGMP/GMP connector side.
- GS-GMP: Ground straps.
