Supported Applications
The Omega PR-19 series consists of industrial RTD probes featuring a subminiature aluminum protection head. These Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) sensors are designed for direct process insertion or placement into thermowells. The product overview indicates the probes can be used alone or placed directly into a thermowell, with a spring-loading option available specifically for thermowell use.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PR-19 series is offered in three model families—PR-19L (Low), PR-19H (High), and PR-19E (Extreme)—each defining specific process temperature ranges. The PR-19L supports -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F); the PR-19H covers -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F); and the PR-19E spans -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F). Accuracy is rated Class A for the PR-19L. For the PR-19H, accuracy is Class A from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F), or else Class B; for the PR-19E, it is Class A from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F), or else Class B. All models utilize a standard TCR of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C.
Response time (T90) varies by probe diameter and model family. For the PR-19L, response times are 2.4 sec for 1/8", 2.8 sec for 3/16", and 3.25 sec for 1/4" diameters. The PR-19H lists 2.8 sec (1/8"), 4.11 sec (3/16"), and 5.41 sec (1/4"). The PR-19E shows slower response: 9 sec (1/8"), 9.8 sec (3/16"), and 10.6 sec (1/4").
The series features an IP67 ingress protection rating for the aluminum head assembly. Mechanical robustness is defined by IEC 60068-2-6 vibration testing (5 to 2000 Hz sweep rate, one active per minute; number of sweep cycles 10 and acceleration 5g) and IEC 60068-2-27 shock testing (50g/11ms), with a duration of 1 day for both tests.
Configuration Options
The PR-19 series supports configurable dimensions, sensor elements, and mounting options to accommodate specific installation requirements:
- Sensor Elements: PT100 Ω or PT1000 RTD element (nominal resistance 100 Ω and 1000 Ω at 0°C).
- Diameters: Available in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 inch.
- Lengths: Standard probe lengths of 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 inches. Other lengths may be built using the configurator.
- Housing & Materials: Subminiature aluminum protection head with cap; wetted materials include a 316 stainless steel sheath.
- Process Connection: 1/2" NPT mounting threads.
- Electrical Connection: Screw terminal block for insulated copper extension wire.
- Options & Accessories: Spring-loading option (noted: should not be ordered unless a thermowell is used) and replacement probes without the protection head assembly are available.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes three primary model families based on temperature capability. The PR-19L (Low) covers -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F). The PR-19H (High) extends the range to -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F), with Class A accuracy maintained up to 300°C. The PR-19E (Extreme) supports the widest envelope from -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F), maintaining Class A accuracy down to -100°C and up to 450°C, with Class B applying outside those bounds.
While all models share the same process connection (1/2" NPT) and sheath material (316 stainless steel), response times differ significantly across families for identical diameters. For example, a 1/8" diameter probe responds in 2.4 sec on PR-19L, 2.8 sec on PR-19H, and 9 sec on PR-19E.
