Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series RHRS Outside Air Humidity Radiation Shield is designed to protect outside air humidity transmitters from rain and radiated heat. The curved shape and color of the plates facilitate airflow across the sensor, preventing radiated temperatures from rooftops and surrounding surfaces from affecting humidity readings.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series RHRS functions as a passive environmental shield rather than an active sensing element; therefore, it does not possess electrical output signals or measurement ranges. Its performance is defined by its physical configuration to mitigate thermal radiation and precipitation exposure for installed sensors.
Configuration Options
The series offers two primary configurations distinguished by the number of protective plates:
- RHRS: 6-plate radiation shield with a height of 8-43/64 [220.27] in.
- RHRS-10: 10-plate radiation shield with a height of 10-37/64 [268.73] in.
Both models share identical width and depth dimensions: Ø5-1/8 [130.18] in diameter (width) and Ø4-47/64 [120.25] base diameter (depth). The series includes integral pipe mounting hardware compatible with 3/4" to 1-1/2" pipes, which can be removed for surface mounting applications.
Probe compatibility is managed via adjustable sensor mounting collars and retainers:
- Plastic Probe Retainer (Standard): Fits probe diameters from 0.40" THRU 0.49".
- Optional Two Sided Probe Retainer: Included with the unit; fits probe diameters from 0.40" to 0.69" depending on which side of the retainer is used.
The brackets are specifically designed for installation on Dwyer Series RHP outside air humidity transmitters equipped with sintered filters.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between models is the plate count and resulting height. The RHRS-10 provides an extended shield length compared to the standard 6-plate RHRS model, while maintaining the same width (5-1/8 [130.18] in) and depth (4-47/64 [120.25] in). Installation notes specify that if using a sensor other than the Dwyer Series RHP Sintered Filter Humidity Transmitter or Series TE Outside Air Temperature Sensor, users must remove the standard plastic probe retainer and substitute it with the included two-sided plastic probe retainer.
