Supported Applications

The Omega FTB8000HW Series consists of hot water flow meters designed for totalization and rate indication. These pulse meters utilize the multi-jet principle with a gear train driving register dials to measure flow in low-quality water applications.

  • Totalization only (Standard models)
  • Rate indication via pulse output (PR or PT sensor options)

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is rated for a maximum operating temperature of 90°C (194°F) and a maximum operating pressure of 150 psi. Accuracy is specified as +/- 1.5% of reading, with new meters factory-tested to meet the AWWA C-708 Multi-Jet Meter accuracy specification.

Flow ranges vary by meter size:

  • 3/4" NPT: 0.22 to 22 GPM
  • 1" NPT: 0.44 to 52 GPM
  • 1-1/2" NPT: 0.88 to 88 GPM
  • 2" NPT: 1.98 to 132 GPM

Configuration Options

The FTB8000HW Series offers configurable sensor outputs and pulse rates to accommodate different monitoring needs.

Sensor Types & Electrical Specifications

  • Standard: Totalizer only, no electrical output or power requirement.
  • -PR (Hall-effect): Requires external power; 6 mA at 12 Vdc minimum. Max current is 20 mA with a max voltage of 24 Vdc.
  • -PT (Reed switch): Dry contact closure, no power required. Max current is 20 mA with a max voltage of 24 Vdc or Vac.

Pulse Output Configuration

Pulse output models feature field-adjustable pulse rates via magnet pointer dial settings. Available configurations include:

  • 1, 2*, 5*, and 10 pulses per gallon (P/G)
  • 1, 5*, 10, and 100 gallons per pulse (G/P)

*Note: Specific pulse rates such as 4 P/G or special magnet configurations may be available from the factory.

Mechanical & Material Specifications

  • Body: Cast bronze, epoxy powder coated inside and out (AWWA specifications).
  • Internals: Engineered thermoplastic.
  • Magnet: Permanent ceramic magnet; Alnico magnets are referenced in replacement parts for the broader family manual context but the series data sheet specifies permanent ceramic.
  • Cable Length: 3.7 m (12') standard, with a maximum run of 610 m (2000').

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the series is the sensor output capability and meter size.

  • Totalizer Only: Models such as FTB8007HW, FTB8010HW, FTB8015HW, and FTB8020HW provide mechanical totalization without electrical pulse outputs.
  • -PR Suffix (Hall-effect): Requires a DC power supply for operation. Default settings vary by size; for example, the 3/4" model defaults to 1 P/G while larger sizes may default differently depending on configuration.
  • -PT Suffix (Reed switch): Provides dry-contact pulse output without external power requirements. Pulse rates are field-adjustable via internal magnet settings.

Meter dimensions vary by NPT size, with overall body lengths ranging from 19 cm (7½") for the 3/4" model to 30 cm (11¾") for the 2" model. Process connections are provided as Male NPT threaded couplings included; IPS straight threads are one size bigger than the meter size.
