Supported Applications
The Omega HSTW (female) and HFSTW (male) series are High Temperature or Ferrite Core Standard Size Thermocouple Connectors. These connectors feature Nickel-Zinc ferrite cores designed for EMI/RFI suppression in high-temperature applications. The series is engineered to interface with standard thermocouples, utilizing liquid crystal polymer (LCP) shells that support elevated operating environments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HSTW-HFSTW connectors are constructed from High Temperature Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP), which is cadmium-free. The series supports two distinct temperature limits based on component function: the ferrite core effectiveness extends to 120°C (248°F), while the LCP material itself withstands up to 260°C (500°F). Electrically, these connectors accept stranded or solid wire up to Size 14 AWG. The impedance is specified as ±20% at 35 Ω @ 25 MHz and 70 Ω @ 100 MHz.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options for thermocouple type, connector gender (male or female), and shell color coding. Key features include removable/reversible write-on windows (HCP-S included) and combination Phillips/slotted captive cover screws. The connectors are available in the following configurations:
- Connector Gender: Female (HSTW series with -F-FT suffix) or Male (HFSTW series with -M suffix).
- Thermocouple Types & Shell Colors:
- Type K: Yellow
- Type T: Blue
- Type J: Black
- Type E: Purple
- Types R/S: Green
- Type U (Uncompensated): White; used with Type B thermocouples.
- Type N: Orange
- Compensating Alloys: Specific alloys are matched to the connector type, including CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, Copper-Constantan, Iron-Constantan, Pt/13%Rh-Pt (RNX/SNX), and OMEGALLOY®.
- Dimensions: Male connectors measure 47.8 mm (1.88) in overall length with a height of 15.06 mm (0.59). Female connectors measure 33.3 mm (1.31) in overall length with a height of 12.70 mm (0.50).
Key Product Differences
The HSTW and HFSTW series are distinguished by their gender and physical dimensions while sharing the same ferrite core technology and LCP housing material. The female connectors (HSTW) feature a shorter overall length of 33.3 mm (1.31) compared to the male connectors (HFSTW), which measure 47.8 mm (1.88). Both variants maintain a width of 25.4 mm (1.00) and include solid pin construction for the male side.
Model numbering follows the format HSTW-(+)-F-FT or HFSTW-(+)-M, followed by an alloy code and shell color designation. For example, a Type K female connector is ordered as HSTW-K-F-FT, while the corresponding male unit is HFSTW-K-M. Note that J, K, T, E, R, S, and B are ANSI designations; OMEGALLOY® is generically known as Nicrosil-Nisil.
