Supported Applications

The Omega TX400 Series comprises miniature head mount temperature transmitters designed to transform signals from RTD or thermocouple sensors into a linearized, 2-wire loop-powered output. The series includes the TX401 and TX402 models, which feature user-configurable settings via an RFID (NFC) programmer and software. These devices incorporate non-volatile memory for data logging with user-selectable sampling time.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The transmitters operate within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F) at 30 to 90% RH (non-condensing). Storage conditions are rated for -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). The enclosure carries a NEMA 1 (IP20) rating according to CE, EN 61000-6-4, and EN 61000-6-2. Performance specifications include a maximum transmission error of 0.1% FS or 0.2°C whichever is greater, with a resolution of 1 µA and a response time of 600 msec (10 to 90%).

Measurement ranges vary by model and sensor type:

  • TX401 RTD Inputs: -200 to 800°C (-328 to 1472°F) for Pt100 (2, 3, or 4-wire); -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F) for Pt1000 (2, 3, or 4-wire); -50 to 170°C (-58 to 338°F) for Ni100 (2, 3, or 4-wire).
  • TX402 RTD Inputs: -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F) for Pt1000 (2, 3, or 4-wire); -50 to 170°C (-58 to 338°F) for Ni100 (2, 3, or 4-wire).
  • TX402 Thermocouple Inputs: Type J: -260 to 1200°C (-328 to 2192°F); Type K: -260 to 1360°C (-436 to 2480°F); Type T: -260 to 400°C (-436 to 752°F); Type E: -260 to 940°C (-436 to 1724°F); Type R/S: -40 to 1760°C (-40 to 3200°F); Type B: 40 to 1820°C (104 to 3308°F); Type N: -260 to 1280°C (-436 to 2336°F).
  • TX402 mV Input: -10 to 70 mV.

Configuration Options

The TX400 Series is configured for specific sensor inputs and output requirements. The housing material is Nylon (PA66), with overall dimensions of 23 H x 45 mm dia (0.9 x 1.77"). Electrical connections utilize screw terminals, and the unit weighs approximately 30 g (1.05 oz).

Key configurable capabilities include:

  • Sensor Inputs: RTD (Pt100, Pt1000, Ni100) in 2-, 3-, or 4-wire configurations; Thermocouples (Types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N); and mV inputs.
  • Output Signal: 4 to 20 mA loop-powered output with high accuracy via 16-bit conversion.
  • Power Supply: 2-wire loop powered; operating range 6 to 32 Vdc.
  • Configuration & Data Logging: Settings are adjusted using the TX400-RFID programmer and free downloadable RF Programmer Configuration Software. The transmitter supports data logging with user-selectable sampling time stored in non-volatile memory.

Key Product Differences

The series consists of two primary models distinguished by their input capabilities:

  • TX401: An RTD input head mount RFID temperature transmitter. It accepts Pt100, Pt1000, or Ni100 inputs.
  • TX402: A thermocouple/RTD input head mount RFID temperature transmitter. In addition to supporting the same RTD types as the TX401 (Pt100 and Ni100), it accepts Types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N thermocouples and mV inputs.

Both models are supplied with a 2 YEAR WARRANTY and carry CE, UL, and RoHS certifications. The TX400-RFID programmer is available as an accessory to configure the transmitters.
