Supported Applications
The Omega HPS-HT Series consists of handheld high temperature surface thermocouple probes designed for measuring surface temperatures on electrically conductive surfaces. The series includes the SP-HF-K-6 Series High Temperature Foundry Probe, intended for harsh environments with surface temperatures up to 1260°C (2300°F), and the HPS-HT Series Surface Probes featuring a retractable cable and miniature connector termination.
Accurate readings require that probe tips contact the measurement surface. These probes are compatible with High Temperature Impedance Type K Temperature Readouts but will not work with analog display systems requiring 10 or 15 input impedance.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports multiple thermocouple types and temperature ranges depending on the specific model:
- Type K (HPS-HT Series): Up to 1100°C (2000°F)
- Type E (HPS-HT Series): Up to 870°C (1600°F)
- Type J (HPS-HT Series): Up to 760°C (1400°F)
- SP-HF-K-6 Series: Surface temperatures up to 1260°C (2300°F)
The HPS-HT probes feature a retractable cable that stretches to 1.5 m (5'), while the probe body length is listed as 300 mm (12"). The SP-HF-K-6 Series has an overall length of 762 mm (30") with a stem diameter of 12.7 mm (0.50") and a handle section diameter of 25.4 mm (1.00").
Configuration Options
The HPS-HT Series is configurable across sensor types, lengths, and termination options to meet specific measurement needs.
Sensor Types & Lengths
- Type K: Available in 6", 12", 24", and 36" configurations (e.g., HPS-HT-K-6-SMPW-M, HPS-HT-K-12-SMPW-M).
- Type E & Type J: Offered with SMP miniature male connectors in various lengths.
Housing & Materials
- Housing Material: Rugged Aluminum, type HDX (SP-HF-K-6 Series).
- Sheath Material: Thermocouple alloy.
Termination & Connections
The series supports multiple electrical connection options including Spade lugs termination and various male connectors. Available connector types include OSTW male, OGP male, and SMPW miniature male connectors. Custom assemblies are available through Omega's Custom Engineering.
