Supported Applications
The Omega Fine Gage Thermocouple Duplex Wire series provides fine-gauge thermocouple extension and instrumentation wiring. The product is available in ANSI Type K (CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™), Type T (Copper-Constantan), Type J (Iron-Constantan), Type E (CHROMEGA™-Constantan), and Type N (Nicrosil-Nisil) configurations.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports multiple temperature ranges depending on the insulation code selected. PFA or Neoflon insulated conductors with an overall PFA jacket support a range of -267 to 260°C (-450 to 500°F). Kapton® fused polyimide tape also covers -267 to 260°C (-450 to 500°F). Glass braid over PFA or Neoflon conductors (Insulation Code TG) supports -73 to 260°C (-100 to 500°F), while all-glass construction (Glass Wrap and Glass Braid, Insulation Code GG) extends the range from -73 to 482°C (-100 to 900°F). Specific thermocouple types have distinct maximum temperature limits within these insulation envelopes: Type T with Neoflon is rated to 150°C (300°F); Type J and E with Glass are rated to 316°C (600°F) and 320°C (700°F), respectively; Type K and N with Glass are rated to 482°C (900°F).
Most models in the series offer ANSI Special Limits of Error and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1 Rating. The wire is supplied as solid conductors.
Insulation Codes and Temperature Ranges
- TT (PFA or Neoflon): -267 to 260°C (-450 to 500°F)
- KK (Kapton®): -267 to 260°C (-450 to 500°F)
- TG (Glass Braid over PFA/Neoflon): -73 to 260°C (-100 to 500°F)
- GG (Glass Wrap and Glass Braid): -73 to 482°C (-100 to 900°F)
Configuration Options
The series is configurable across several dimensions including wire gauge, insulation type, thermocouple alloy, and spool length. Wire gauges are available in 30 AWG, 36 AWG, and 40 AWG.
Thermocouple Types
- Type K (CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™)
- Type T (Copper-Constantan)
- Type J (Iron-Constantan)
- Type E (CHROMEGA™-Constantan)
- Type N (Nicrosil-Nisil / OMEGALLOY™ vs. OMEGA-P™/OMEGA-N™)
Insulation Materials and Construction
- PFA or Neoflon: Available with PFA overall jacket (Code TT).
- Kapton®: Fused Polyimide Tape for both conductor insulation and overall covering (Code KK).
- Glass Braid over PFA/Neoflon: Glass braid outer layer with PFA or Neoflon inner conductors (Code TG).
- All-Glass Construction: Glass wrap on conductors with a glass braid overall jacket (Code GG).
Spool Lengths and Ordering Options
Standard spool lengths include 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 ft. Metric options are available in meters (e.g., 7.5M to 300M) for specific configurations. To order wire with Special Limits of Error, add 'SLE' to the model number before the spool length designation.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between insulation types primarily by their maximum temperature capability and physical construction. Glass-insulated variants (GG) provide higher thermal limits up to 482°C (900°F) compared to PFA/Neoflon or Kapton® options, which are limited to 260°C (500°F). However, specific thermocouple alloys impose further restrictions; for example, Type T with Neoflon insulation is rated only to 150°C (300°F), and Type J/E glass variants have maximums of 316°C (600°F) and 320°C (700°F).
Color coding follows ANSI standards for each thermocouple type: Type K uses Yellow/Red conductors with a Brown overall; Type T, J, E use Blue/White/Purple positive leads respectively against Red negative leads, all with Brown overall. Kapton® wire is not IEC or ANSI color coded.
Model numbers follow the format Duplex Insulated Thermocouple Wire - [Insulation Code] - [AWG No.] - [Type Wire] - [Special Limits of Error (SLE)] - [Spool Length]. For example, a 30 AWG Type K wire with Glass insulation and Special Limits of Error on a 1000 ft spool is ordered as GG-K-30-SLE-1000.
