Supported Applications

The Mercoid® Series 3200G is an explosion-proof smart pressure transmitter designed for draft measurement and use in hazardous locations. As a microprocessor-based device featuring a capacitance sensor, it provides true 4-20 mA analog output with HART® digital communication for remote configuration and diagnostics. The series supports compatible gases, steam, liquids, or vapors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 3200G operates across five primary pressure ranges: -14.5 to 21 psi (-100 to 150 kPa), -14.5 to 217 psi (-100 to 1500 kPa), 0 to 725 psi (0 to 5000 kPa), 0 to 3600 psi (0 to 25000 kPa), and 0 to 8500 psi (0 to 60000 kPa). Accuracy is specified as ±0.075% FS (@ 20°C) with a response time of 0.25 to 60 s.

Process temperature limits are -40 to 248°F (-40 to 120°C). Ambient operating temperatures range from -40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C) without an LCD module, and -22 to 176°F (-30 to 80°C) with the LCD module. Storage temperature is rated at -40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C). The transmitter withstands a maximum pressure of 58 to 11600 psi (4 to 800 bar), depending on the selected range.

Electrical requirements include a power supply of 11.9-45 VDC with a load resistance of 0 to 1500 Ω for operation and 250 to 500 Ω for HART® communication. The enclosure is rated NEMA 4X (IP66) and explosion-proof for Class I, Div I Groups A, B, C and D.

Approvals & Certifications

  • FM Approved: Explosion-Proof for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C and D; Dust-Ignition-Proof for Class II/III, Division 1, Groups E, F and G.
  • Suitable For: Nonincendive use in Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D; Suitable for Class II, Division 2, Groups E, F and G; Suitable for Class III, Division 1.
  • HART® Communication
  • CE Marking

Safety & Installation Notes

  • Do not open when an explosive atmosphere may be present; do not remove transmitter covers in explosion environments while powered.
  • Covers must be fully engaged to meet explosion-proof requirements.
  • Avoid installation locations with severe temperature variations, corrosive atmospheres, shock, and vibration unless precautions are observed.

Configuration Options

The Series 3200G offers extensive configuration options to meet specific process needs. The model number structure allows selection of range, approval type, process connection, electrical connection, diaphragm seal type, mounting flange, extension length, wetted materials, fill fluid, and optional features.

Process Connections & Diaphragm Seals

  • Standard Connection: 1/2" female NPT (process) with two 1/2" female NPT conduit electrical connections via screw terminals.
  • Diaphragm Seal Types: Available configurations include extended diaphragm seal direct mount, capillary type high flush, and flush diaphragm seal capillary types.
  • Mounting Flanges: Options include 2" (50 mm) or 3" (80 mm) 316 L SS flanges with ratings for ANSI class 150# / 300#, DIN PN 10/16 / 25/40, and JIS 10 K / 20 K.
  • Extension Lengths: Configurable as No extension (standard), 2", 4", or 6" extensions.

Wetted Materials & Fill Fluids

  • Diaphragm Materials: 316L SS, PTFE and 316L SS, Hastelloy C-276, or Tantalum.
  • Fill Fluid: Silicon oil rated for -40 to 400°F.
  • Capillary Lengths: Available from 0 to 20 feet.

Housing & Display Options

  • LCD Module: A 5-digit LCD display option is available, which adjusts the ambient operating temperature range and adds local readout capabilities (Primary unit, %, mA).
  • Housings: Standard explosion-proof housing; a 316 SS housing is available only with WP (Weatherproof) approval.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between models based on pressure range, the presence of an LCD display, and specific hazardous location approvals. The model number guide defines these variations:

  • Range Codes (1–5): Define the measurement span from -14.5 to 21 psig up to 0 to 8500 psig.
  • Approval Codes: "FM" denotes FM approved for hazardous locations; "WP" indicates Weatherproof only (restricted to 316 SS housing).
  • LCD Option: Models with the "-LCD" suffix include a local display and have reduced ambient temperature limits (-22 to 176°F / -30 to 80°C) compared to non-LCD models.

The transmitter supports configuration via ZERO/SPAN buttons, PC/PDA using DevCom2000 software, or a HART® handheld terminal. Fail-safe modes (Fail Down/D or Fail Up/U) are configurable for both LCD and CPU modules.
