Supported Applications

The Omega iDRN/iDRX Series signal conditioners are DIN rail-mountable devices designed for industrial applications requiring high accuracy, performance, and reliability. The series supports a wide range of input types including thermocouples (J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N, J DIN), RTD temperature sensors (Pt100, 500, 1000Ω), process voltage & current, strain/bridge inputs, frequency/pulse signals, AC voltage, and AC current. The iDRN models provide scalable analog outputs for local control systems, while the iDRX models offer digital RS-485 communication (ASCII or MODBUS) for integration into networked data acquisition environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -5 to 55°C (23 to 131°F), with a storage temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Power is supplied via 10 to 32 Vdc. The devices feature 1800 Vdc peak isolation and a typical step response time to 99% of 1 second.

Performance specifications vary by input type:

  • Thermocouple (iDRN/iDRX-TC): Accuracy ±1°C; Resolution 0.1°C. Supports full ranges for J, K, T, E, R/S, B, N, and J DIN types.
  • RTD (iDRN/iDRX-RTD): Accuracy ±0.5°C; Resolution 0.1°C. Compatible with α = 385 or 392 Pt100, 500, and 1000Ω sensors in 2, 3, or 4-wire configurations.
  • Process Voltage & Current (iDRN/iDRX-PR): Accuracy 0.1% FS; Resolution 12 to 15 Bit. Input ranges include ±400 mV to ±10V and 0 to 20 mA.
  • AC Voltage & Current (iDRN/iDRX-ACV/ACO): Accuracy 0.2%; Resolution 10 to 14 Bit. AC voltage range is Full Scale Range: 400 mV to 400V; AC current range is Full Scale Range: 10 mA to 5 A.
  • Strain/Bridge (iDRN/iDRX-ST): Accuracy 0.2% FS; Resolution 13 to 15 Bit. Input ranges include 0 to 30 mV, 0 to 100 mV, and ±100 mV.
  • Frequency/Pulse (iDRN/iDRX-FP): Accuracy 0.1% FS; Resolution 15 to 19 Bit. Input range is Full Scale Range: 20k to 200 M pulses, 0 to 50 kHz.

Configuration Options

The iDRN/iDRX series offers configurable output signals and connectivity options tailored to specific system requirements. The physical dimensions are 90 H x 25 W x 107 mm D (3.54 x 0.99 x 4.21"), designed for mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail.

Output Signals

  • iDRN Series: Analog outputs of 0 to 10 Vdc (max 10 mA load) or current loops of 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA with 10V compliance.
  • iDRX Series: Digital output via 2-wire half-duplex RS-485 supporting OMEGA Serial Protocol and Modbus Serial Protocol.

Connectivity & Accessories

The series supports electrical connections via screw terminal or RJ-12 connector. Remote access is available through optional Ethernet modules:

  • EIT-D: RS-232 to Ethernet Server (serves one iDRN unit).
  • EIT-D-485: RS-485 to Ethernet Server (serves 32 iDRX devices).

Additional accessories include the CAT-285 bi-directional RS232-RS485 converter, various connector adaptors (DB9-RJ12, DB25-RJ12), RJ12T T-split connectors, and DIN rails in 1m or 2m lengths. Power is provided by the iDRN-PS-1000 switching power supply (95 to 240 Vac input, 24 Vdc output).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between analog and digital output architectures:

  • iDRN Models: Provide isolated analog outputs (voltage or current) suitable for direct connection to PLCs, recorders, or control loops.
  • iDRX Models: Provide isolated RS-485 digital communication, enabling multi-drop networking and remote configuration via PC software using the free setup utility. Factory setup and scaling (-FS option) are available at no extra charge for both series.

Input-specific model codes define the sensor compatibility: iDRN/iDRX-TC (Thermocouple), iDRN/iDRX-RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector), iDRN/iDRX-ACV/ACO (AC Voltage/Current), iDRN/iDRX-PR (Process DC signals), iDRN/iDRX-ST (Strain/Bridge), and iDRN/iDRX-FP (Frequency/Pulse).
