Supported Applications
The Series SAV-ST Angle Seat Valve is a compact, low-cost actuated valve package built around an AISI 316L stainless steel valve body for controlling gases and liquids compatible with its wetted materials. It is a pneumatic, externally piloted piston valve that can be operated with air or liquids, giving it wide reach across process, utility, and OEM machine-building applications that demand corrosion resistance.
Beyond the stainless body, the plug and stem are also AISI 316L stainless steel, the seat and seal are PTFE, and the stem O-ring is a fluoroelastomer — a wetted-part set that supports clean, aggressive, and hot media alike. The angle-seat geometry suits steam service as well as air, water, and inert-gas media, and the valve delivers bubble-tight shutoff meeting ANSI Class VI flow leakage.
- Steam and hot-media control, with process media temperatures up to 180°C.
- Failsafe on/off duty, using a single-acting actuator with a mechanical spring so the valve returns to its rest position if pilot power is lost.
- Waterhammer mitigation in liquid lines, where normally open (NO) variants can be applied to prevent waterhammer on valve closure.
- Automated skids and solenoid-piloted systems, using the NAMUR solenoid mounting pad and optional Series PV Solenoid Pilot Valves for 120 VAC operation.
Pilot media for the actuator can be air, water, or inert gas, easing integration into existing pneumatic control loops.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Series SAV-ST valves are offered in line sizes from 1/2" to 2" NPT, with National Pipe Thread process connections throughout the range. The stainless steel valve body handles process media at temperatures up to 180°C while maintaining a tight, ANSI Class VI shutoff.
Flow capacity scales with valve size, with rated Cv values spanning from 6.61 on the smallest 1/2" body up to 77.72 on the largest 2" body, so a single series can serve both low- and high-flow points in a system.
The actuator is a piston / pneumatic spring design with a NAMUR solenoid mounting pad for pilot connections. Line pressure, steam pressure, and the minimum and maximum pilot pressure required to stroke each valve are defined in the manufacturer's Line and Pilot Pressure Chart, and depend on valve size, actuator diameter, and configuration. Because these limits vary by model, the appropriate values should be taken from that chart for the specific variant selected.
Flow direction follows the valve configuration: normally closed (NC) variants are piloted Overseat, while normally open (NO) variants are piloted Underseat.
Configuration Options
All Series SAV-ST models share the same 316L stainless-bodied, pneumatically actuated angle-seat platform, but they differ along four axes that let you match the valve to the application.
Valve size and port connection
Port connections range across 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 2" NPT. Larger ports deliver higher flow capacity, which is why Cv increases with body size.
Actuator diameter
The valve is fitted with one of several actuator sizes — 2.76", 3.32", 4.58", or 5.54" diameter — with larger actuators generally paired to larger bodies and higher-pressure duties to develop the seating force needed for tight shutoff.
Normally closed vs. normally open
Each valve is supplied as either normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO). The single-acting spring returns the valve to that default state on loss of pilot pressure, providing failsafe behavior; NC units seal Overseat, while NO units are arranged Underseat and can be used to prevent waterhammer on closure in liquid service.
Model code structure
Model numbers encode these choices in sequence — series, port connection, actuator diameter, and normally closed/open — so a code such as SAV-STA1-NC can be read directly as a specific size, actuator, and configuration.
Key Product Differences
The Series SAV-ST lineup uses an AISI 316L stainless steel valve body and is available in the following models, each defined by its port connection and normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO) configuration:
- SAV-STA1-NC — 1/2" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STA2-NO — 1/2" NPT, normally open
- SAV-STB1-NC — 3/4" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STB2-NO — 3/4" NPT, normally open
- SAV-STC3-NO — 1" NPT, normally open
- SAV-STD3-NC — 1-1/4" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STD3-NO — 1-1/4" NPT, normally open
- SAV-STE2-NC — 1-1/2" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STE3-NC — 1-1/2" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STF2-NC — 2" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STF3-NC — 2" NPT, normally closed
- SAV-STF3-NO — 2" NPT, normally open
For bronze bodies with the same actuation and configuration options, the companion Series SAV-BT covers the equivalent lineup.
