Product Overview
  • Feedthrough Material OMEGATITE™ 450
  • Series ID ORX-INSULATORS

Supported Applications

The Omega ORX Insulators series consists of ceramic thermocouple insulators designed for use with thermocouple wires. These components are engineered to provide electrical isolation and mechanical support in high-temperature environments. The materials used—OMEGATITE® 450, OMEGATITE 350, and OMEGATITE 200—are non-reactive and compatible with platinum, tungsten, and molybdenum thermocouple alloys.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports three distinct ceramic material grades, each defined by specific chemical compositions and thermal limits:

  • OMEGATITE 450: Composed of 99.8% Al₂O₃ with a maximum service temperature of 1950°C (3540°F). It features a compressive strength of 300,000 psi and a dielectric constant of 9.29 at 1MC.
  • OMEGATITE 350: Composed of 99% Al₂O₃ with a maximum service temperature of 1950°C (3450°F). It shares the same compressive strength as OMEGATITE 450 but has a dielectric constant of 8.61 at 1MC.
  • OMEGATITE 200: A multilite type ceramic composed of 80% Mullite and 20% Glass, rated for a maximum service temperature of 1650°C (3000°F). It has a compressive strength of 100,000 psi.

All three materials are gas tight with zero water absorption. Standard stock insulators have an overall length of 6 inches.

Configuration Options

The series is available in single-hole, two-hole, and four-hole round configurations to accommodate various wire diameters and sensor arrangements. Model numbers follow a structured format indicating outside diameter (OD), inside diameter (ID), and material type:

  • Single Hole Round Insulators: Identified by the prefix ORX for OMEGATITE 450, ORA for OMEGATITE 350, and ORM for OMEGATITE 200. Example: ORX-1814 denotes a ¼" OD with an ⅛" ID.
  • Two Hole Round Insulators: Identified by the prefix TRX, TRA, or TRM. Example: TRX-56414 denotes a ¼" OD with a 5/64" ID.
  • Four Hole Round Insulators: Identified by the prefix FRX, FRA, or FRM. Example: FRX-11614 denotes a ¼" OD with a 1/16" ID.

Bore diameters range from 0.005" to ⅛", supporting maximum wire diameters up to 0.102" depending on the bore size. Sizes up to ¼ inch OD are available from stock; other sizes, styles, and lengths require quotation.

Key Product Differences

Variations within the series are primarily defined by material composition and hole configuration:

  • Material Differences: OMEGATITE 450 offers the highest purity alumina (99.8%) and thermal conductivity of 230 BTU inch/ft² hour °F at 24°C, while OMEGATITE 200 provides lower thermal conductivity (16) with a mullite-glass composition.
  • Hole Configuration: Single-hole models are used for individual sensor isolation. Two-hole and four-hole variants allow multiple thermocouple wires to be housed within a single insulator body, reducing the number of components required in multi-sensor assemblies.

Special sizes or shapes can be requested with explicit sketches or prints. Single hole ceramics with closed ends are available upon consultation with Sales.
