Supported Applications

The Omega CRP Series consists of modular, self-contained ceramic infrared panel heaters designed for radiant heating applications. These units are engineered to operate effectively in environments subject to vibration and adverse atmospheric conditions without performance degradation. The series is intended for processes requiring radiation distances between 102 mm (4") and 254 mm (10").

Per safety warnings, these heaters must not be used in atmospheres containing flammable vapors, gases, or liquids as defined by the National Electrical Code. Applications involving the evaporation of solvents or water require substantial ventilating air to remove resulting vapors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CRP Series operates within a standard temperature range of 399°C (750°F) to 704°C (1300°F). The heaters emit infrared radiation in the wavelength range of 3 µm to 6 µm. Standard operation assumes a room ambient temperature of 22°C (72°F).

Performance specifications vary by power rating, with typical operating temperatures and primary emitted wavelengths documented as follows:

  • 1.50 KW: Typical Operating Temperature 424°C (796°F); Primary Emitted Wavelength 4.2 µm
  • 2.25 KW: Typical Operating Temperature 513°C (956°F); Primary Emitted Wavelength 3.7 µm
  • 3.00 KW: Typical Operating Temperature 580°C (1076°F); Primary Emitted Wavelength 3.4 µm
  • 3.75 KW: Typical Operating Temperature 644°C (1191°F); Primary Emitted Wavelength 3.2 µm
  • 4.50 KW: Typical Operating Temperature 709°C (1308°F); Primary Emitted Wavelength 3.0 µm

Installation requires a minimum clearance of 6 inches from any structural material lacking at least a 200°C (392°F) continuous temperature rating.

Configuration Options

The series is available in modular configurations with overall dimensions of 0.3 x 0.3 m (12 x 12"). Housings are offered as low-profile units constructed from either aluminized steel or stainless steel, featuring a NEMA 1 terminal box centered on the back.

Electrical and configuration options include:

  • Voltage & Phase: Standard ratings available at 120V, 240V (single-phase), 240V-3Ph, 480V (single-phase), and 480V-3Ph. Other voltages are noted as available.
  • Power Ratings: Models range from 1.50 KW to 4.50 KW with corresponding watt densities of 12.0 W/in² to 36.0 W/in² (standard panel specifications).
  • Sensor Options: Configurable with or without internal Type K thermocouples; optional Type J thermocouple and bayonet T/C probes (3/16" diameter) are available.
  • Housing Features: Optional 1/2" Trade Size knock-outs for line wiring on sides or back. Mounting is facilitated by four 1/4"-20 X 1" studs in an 11" square pattern centered on the unit.

Facing options include standard panels with a metamorphing yellow-to-orange ceramic face, as well as glass-faced variants available with dark red or clear faces. Replacement heaters (CRL series) and replacement glass are supported for maintenance.

Key Product Differences

The CRP Series distinguishes between standard radiant panels and glass-faced radiant panels across aluminized steel and stainless steel housing materials. Model numbers follow the format CRP, where specific suffixes denote voltage, phase, and thermocouple inclusion (e.g., "K T/C" indicates a Type K thermocouple).

Variations are defined by:

  • Housing Material: Aluminized steel versus stainless steel construction.
  • Face Configuration: Standard ceramic face (yellow-to-orange) versus glass-faced options (dark red or clear).
  • Sensor Integration: Models are designated as "No T/C" for units without sensors, while others include Type K thermocouples. Optional configurations support Type J elements.
