Supported Applications
The Omega OCS XL Series is a compact, all-in-one controller integrating a graphical operator interface (HMI), programmable logic control (PLC) ladder logic, built-in I/O, networking capabilities, and removable mass data storage. Designed for machine control and process visualization, the series combines these functions into a single unit suitable for OEM machine control and plant monitoring applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The OCS XL Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) with a power supply requirement of 12/24 Vdc. The enclosure rating is NEMA 4X (IP66) equivalent, and the unit features removable terminal blocks for electrical connections.
Measurement capabilities include support for J, K, N, T, E, R, S, B thermocouples and Pt100 RTD sensors, alongside analog inputs of 0 to 10 Vdc, 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA, and 100 mV. Accuracy is specified as ±0.2% (Warm Up Time of One Hour) generally, with a specification of ±0.3% below -100°C for specific ranges.
Resolution varies by input type: 16 bits for thermocouple and RTD inputs; 14 bits for universal analog inputs; 12 bits for analog outputs; and 10 bits for standard analog inputs. The response time is defined as one update per ladder scan plus 10 mS.

The series is available in three form factors distinguished by display resolution and physical dimensions:

- XLt Series: 160x128 pixels.

I/O Configurations and Outputs
Models offer various I/O densities including DC/relay, DC/DC, high-density DC/DC, and universal analog options.
- Digital Inputs: 12 or 24 inputs compatible with 12V/24 Vdc; up to 4 inputs per model can be used for High Speed Counting (HSC) at a switching rate of 10 kHz totalizer/pulse, edges.
- Relay Outputs: Up to 6 relay outputs with continuous current ratings ranging from 3 A to 5 A depending on the series and model.
- DC Outputs: Sourcing/10 K pull-down; up to 12 or 16 points at 0.5 A per point, with some models supporting PWM/pulse outputs (up to 2 channels).
- Analog Inputs: Selectable between thermocouple, RTD, 0 to 100 mV, 0 to 10 Vdc, and 4 to 20 mA.
- Analog Outputs: Available on select models (e.g., HE-XE105), selectable between 0 to 10 Vdc and 4 to 20 mA with a minimum load of 1 kΩ for the 10V output.
Communication & Connectivity Options
The series supports CsCAN Network Port, MJ 1 Serial Port, and MJ 2 Serial Port. Field-installable communication options include:
- HE-XEC: 10/100 Ethernet Option Kit (includes deeper plastic back cover for XLe).
- HE-XMC: 57.6k Telephone Modem Option Kit.
- HE-XRC9: 900 MHz RF Modem Interface.
Data Storage & Programming
The controller supports removable MicroSD™ memory cards (1 GB capacity via HE-MC1) for data storage or program upload. The series is programmable using the Cscape software package, which includes a USB memory stick with symbol library and programming cables.

The OCS XL Series differentiates models by display resolution (XLe, XLt, XL6) and I/O architecture. The XLe series offers compact dimensions suitable for smaller panels, while the XL6 provides a larger 320x240 pixel interface with expanded physical size.
Model Number Distinctions
- XLe Series (HE-XE1xx): Includes HE-XE102 (DC/relay I/O), HE-XE103 (DC/DC I/O), HE-XE104 (High-density DC/DC I/O with 24 digital inputs), and HE-XE105 (Universal analog I/O).
- XLt Series (HE-XT1xx): Mirrors the XLe I/O configurations but features a larger display resolution.
- XL6 Series (HE-XL1xx): Includes HE-XL102 through HE-XL105 with similar I/O options; note that relay outputs on XL6 models are rated at 3 A continuous current, whereas XLe and XLt relay ratings vary up to 5 A.
- No Local I/O: The HE-XL100 model is available without local I/O, requiring expansion modules.
