Supported Applications

The Omega Adjustable Depth Armored Thermocouples (Series ADR and ADF) are temperature sensors designed for installations where the probe must be held firmly at a specific depth within an equipment well. The series features flexible armor with a spring-action catch that secures the welded stainless steel tipped probe against the bottom of the well via compression.

Two distinct mounting styles address different installation requirements:

  • Type ADF (Fixed Locking Cap): Features a unique locking fitting designed to mount permanently to equipment.
  • Type ADR (Removable Locking Cap): Includes a removable locking fitting and requires a BTA adapter. This style is intended for installations under insulation or scenarios where the locking cap must be removed from the probe assembly.

A critical operational constraint documented for this series is that these probes cannot be immersed in liquids.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The ADR and ADF series utilize flexible armor construction with a typical outer diameter of 7.0/6.7 (0.28/0.26) O.D. The probe tip is constructed from 304 S.S. PROBE (TYP.). Key dimensional parameters for the assembly include:

  • Hex Body Dimension: 13 (0.5) ACROSS FLATS
  • Stem Length: 11 (0.44)
  • Overall Assembly Height (Adapter Well): 24 (0.94)
  • Minimum Immersion Depth: 70 (2.75) MIN

The series supports configurable insertion lengths defined by the "B" dimension, which extends up to 48 inches in standard configurations; lengths over 48 inches are available for additional cost.

Selection and Configuration Logic

Model numbers follow a specific structure: ADR-(1)-(2)-(3)-(4)-X or ADF-(1)-(2)-(3)-(4)-X. The configuration parameters are:

  • Box 1 (Calibration): J, K, T, or E thermocouple types.
  • Box 2 (Junction Type): G for grounded junction; U for ungrounded junction.
  • Box 3 ("A" Dimension): Specifies the "A" dimension up to 3 inches.
  • Box 4 ("B" Dimension): Specifies the insertion length up to 48 inches.
  • Termination Style: The final digit indicates the connector type: 1 for Spade Lugs, 2 for Male Quick Disconnect Type OST, or 3 for Female Quick Disconnect Type OST.

The series also offers a low-profile option; specify ADR-LF or ADF-LF when ordering this variant. Standard size connectors are provided as the electrical connection interface.

Configuration Options

The ADR-ADF series is available in a wide range of configurations to accommodate specific depth and termination needs. The documented variants include:

  • Thermocouple Types: Type J, K, T, and E calibrations.
  • Junction Configurations: Grounded (G) or Ungrounded (U).
  • Termination Styles:
    • Style 1: Spade Lugs
    • Style 2: Male Quick Disconnect Type OST
    • Style 3: Female Quick Disconnect Type OST
  • Housing Styles: Fixed locking cap (ADF) or removable locking cap with BTA adapter requirement (ADR).

The series supports "A" dimensions up to 3 inches and "B" insertion lengths ranging from short configurations up to 48 inches, with extended lengths available beyond this standard limit.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two styles in this series is the mounting mechanism:

  • Type ADF: Designed for permanent installation where the locking fitting remains fixed to the equipment. The probe assembly includes a 1/8-27 NPT connection point on the adapter well.
  • Type ADR: Designed for removable applications, requiring the use of a BTA-1 ADAPTOR. This configuration allows the locking cap to be detached from the flexible armor and probe assembly.

All models in this series share the same core construction: 304 S.S. PROBE (TYP.) tip material, flexible armor sheath, and a spring-action depth retention mechanism. The specific model number determines the thermocouple type, junction grounding status, dimensional configuration, and termination connector style.
