Supported Applications
The Omega KE Series is a high temperature constant wattage heating cable designed for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance. The series supports use in asphalt plants, oil refineries, mines, chemical processing areas, petrochemical facilities, corrosive environments, and severe arctic cold conditions.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The KE Series features a continuous exposure rating up to 260°C (500°F) with a maximum short term exposure temperature of 287°C (550°F) when de-energized. The cable utilizes a parallel resistance heater design providing constant watt density and cut-to-length capability. Electrical performance includes a dielectric strength in excess of 2500V. Maximum circuit lengths are specified to include an end-to-end voltage variation of 10% based on cable operating temperatures of 300°F; longer runs may be used.
Configuration Options
The series is available in three wattage densities: 4, 8, and 12 W/ft. Voltage options include 120V, 208V, 240V, 277V, and 480V. The cable construction features a braided sheath of 128 strands of 27 ga. 50% tinned copper/50% stainless steel with a 20 Mil PFA extruded jacket rated to 260°C. Outside dimensions are nominally 8.38 x 5.72 mm (0.330 x 0.225 in). The series includes continuous electrical ground and offers moisture and chemical resistance.
Ordering requires specifying the desired length with a minimum of 7.6 m (25'). Model numbers follow the format KE-, such as KE4-120, KE8-120, or KE12-120. Maximum circuit module lengths vary by wattage and voltage:
- KE4 Series: 1.2 m (4') for most voltages; 2.4 m (8') at 480V
- KE8 Series: 1.2 m (4') standard; 1.8 m (6') at 480V
- Maximum circuit lengths range from 350" to 1398" depending on the specific wattage and voltage combination.
The cable is classified for Class 1, Groups B, C, and D, Division 2 Classified Areas. Recommended accessories include termination kits for KE cable and control options such as controllers and thermostats.
