Supported Applications
The Omega SVH-11 Series comprises direct-acting, normally closed (NC) or optionally normally open (NO), 2-way solenoid valves engineered for very high-pressure service. These units are designed to control the flow of gases, water, non-viscous liquids, hydrogen, nitrogen, and cryogenics. The series is suitable for applications requiring pressures up to 10,000 psi [68.9 MPa] depending on the specific model configuration.
Key application constraints include:
- The valve opens when energized and closes when de-energized (NC) or vice versa for NO configurations.
- Flow occurs from inlet to outlet; the valve does not stop fluid moving in the reverse direction, requiring P_inlet ≥ P_outlet at all times.
- Do not use with dirty fluids or solutions that leave large deposits.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The SVH-11 Series operates across a process temperature range of -212 to 204°C (-350 to 400°F). Maximum allowable inlet pressure varies by model and coil type, with the SVH-111 supporting up to 10,000 psig (AC coils) or 5,000 psig (DC coils), while the SVH-112 supports up to 4,000 psig (AC coils) or 2,000 psig (DC coils). The series is designed to withstand pressures approaching four times maximum allowable inlet pressure at room temperature without bursting.
Performance specifications include:
- Response Time: Typically less than 0.5 seconds.
- Differential Pressure Limits (NC): SVH-111 AC Coil: 10,000 psi; DC Coil: 5,000 psi. SVH-112 AC Coil: 4,000 psi; DC Coil: 2,000 psi.
- Differential Pressure Limits (NO): SVH-111 AC Coil: 7,500 psi; DC Coil: 5,500 psi. SVH-112 AC Coil: 3,500 psi; DC Coil: 2,500 psi.
- C_v Values: Approximate C_v of 0.005 for the 0.019" orifice (SVH-111) and 0.020 for the 0.032" orifice (SVH-112).
For intermittent short-period power, allowable fluid temperature is 400°F at an ambient of 77°F. DC coils are strongly advised if frequent cycling (>5 times per minute) occurs, particularly with elevated fluid temperatures.
Voltage and Power Specifications
- AC Voltages: 120V AC, 24V AC, 240V AC (Class H insulation).
- DC Voltages: 12V DC, 24V DC, 120V DC.
- Power Consumption: 22 Watts; AC Inrush is 2.5 Amp @ 120 Vac with a holding current of 0.2 Amp at 120 Vac.
Housing and Environmental Ratings
- Enclosure: NEMA Type 4 and 7 for standard coils; NEMA Type 9 available with explosion-proof coils (NEMA Types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 4x also listed for specific configurations).
- Duty Cycle: Continuous.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options to meet diverse installation requirements. Standard process connections are ¼-18 NPT per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 at the inlet and outlet, with a ½ NPT conduit connection for electrical leads.
Available Options
- DIN Electrical Connector: Add suffix "-DIN" (standard lead length is 457 mm / 18").
- Hydrogen Service: Helium leak test available with suffix "-HY".
- Oxygen Cleaned Units: Suffix "-OX" for oxygen service compatibility.
- Normally Open Configuration: Add suffix "-NO" to reverse default operation.
- Straight Thread J1926 with O-ring Seal: Suffix "-ST".
- Flared Tubing Connection: Suffix "-TC".
- Orientational Flexibility: Units installed in any orientation via suffix "-UM".
Materials of Construction
The valve body is constructed from 316 Stainless Steel. Wetted components include a bonnet tube (316 and 430 SS), piston/seal assembly (Polyether ether ketone or FEP/PTFE depending on source, with 302, 303, and 430 stainless steel parts), and copper for AC-powered units. Springs are 302 SS; plungers are 430 SS.
Key Product Differences
The SVH-11 Series is divided into two primary model families based on orifice size, which dictates flow capacity (C_v) and maximum pressure ratings:
- SVH-111 Models: Feature a 0.48 mm (0.019") port diameter with an approximate C_v of 0.005. These models support higher pressures, up to 10,000 psig for AC coils and 5,000 psig for DC coils.
- SVH-112 Models: Feature a larger 0.81 mm (0.032") port diameter with an approximate C_v of 0.020. Maximum pressure ratings are lower than the SVH-111, capped at 4,000 psig for AC coils and 2,000 psig for DC coils.
Model numbers follow the format SVH-<MODEL>-<COIL_VOLTAGE>-<OPTIONAL_SUFFIX>. For example, SVH-111-DIN indicates a Model 111 with a DIN connector option. The series carries RoHS compliance and includes a 1-year warranty.
