Supported Applications
The Omega SVH-120 Series consists of pilot-operated, high-pressure solenoid valves designed for flow control in demanding environments. The series is specified for use with air, water, compressed natural gas (CNG), hydrogen, nitrogen, and other gases or light liquids compatible with the materials of construction. Documented applications include hydrogen dispensing tanks and CNG systems.
These 2-way valves are available in Normally Closed (NC) configurations as standard, with a Normally Open (-NO) option also offered. The valve design permits flow from inlet to outlet when energized; it stops fluid only in the direction of inlet to outlet and does not stop reverse flow.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The SVH-120 Series supports maximum operating pressures up to 7,500 psig for AC voltage coils and 3,600 PSIG for DC voltage coils. With the higher pressure (-XP) option, these limits increase to 10,000 psig (AC) and 7,200 psig (DC). The series is designed with a burst capability approaching four times the maximum allowable inlet pressure at room temperature.
Fluid temperature ranges are -37 to 121°C (-35 to 250°F) for standard configurations. Units equipped with FKM o-rings (-VT option) support an extended range of -26 to 204°C (-15 to 400°F). A minimum pressure differential is required to open the valve: SVH-121 requires 50 psi, and SVH-122 requires 100 psi. The solenoid valve must be mounted upright and vertical.
Flow Characteristics
- SVH-121: 0.250" orifice with an approximate Cv of 1.1.
- SVH-122: 0.500" orifice with an approximate Cv of 4.5.
Electrical Specifications
Coils are available in AC voltages (120 Vac, 24 Vac, 240 Vac) and DC voltages (24 Vdc, 120 Vdc). Standard coils consume 10 watts with Class "F" insulation. The -XP option provides a higher pressure coil consuming 22 watts with Class "H" insulation.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options to address specific installation and service requirements, including electrical connections, media compatibility enhancements, and specialized mounting interfaces.
Available Options & Accessories
- DIN Electrical Connector: Add "DIN" to the model number for an integrated DIN connector (standard coils have 18" leads with a ½ NPT connection).
- Hydrogen Service (-HY): Includes Helium leak test.
- Oxygen Cleaned Units (-OX): Available for oxygen service applications.
- FKM O-Rings (-VT): Enables operation up to 400°F (204°C).
- Higher Pressure Coil (-XP): Increases maximum operating pressure limits and utilizes Class "H" insulation.
- Normally Open Configuration (-NO): Reverses the default valve state.
- Straight Thread Connection with O-Ring Seal (-ST).
Process Connections & Materials
The SVH-121 features a ¼ NPT connection, while the SVH-122 uses a ½ NPT connection (per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1). Wetted materials include:
- Valve Body & Cartridge: 316 SS / 430 SS.
- Pistons: PAEK (Polyether ether ketone).
- O-Rings/Backing Rings: Buna-N, FKM (-VT), or PTFE.
- Seals & Springs: 302 SS, 303 SS, and PTFE components.
Key Product Differences
The series is divided into two primary port sizes with distinct flow capacities and pressure ratings based on coil type. The SVH-121 model utilizes a 0.250" orifice, whereas the SVH-122 employs a larger 0.500" orifice.
Pressure capabilities differ significantly between AC and DC coils for standard configurations: AC models support up to 7,500 psig (SVH-121) or 5,000 psig (SVH-122), while DC models are rated lower at 3,500–3,600 PSIG. The -XP option elevates these maximums to 10,000 psig for the SVH-121 and 7,500/7,200 psig for the SVH-122 depending on voltage type.
Dimensional differences exist between Normally Closed (NC) and Normally Open (-NO) configurations. For example, the overall length (dimension B) of an SVH-121 increases from 4.1 inches to 4.8 inches when configured as -NO; similarly, the SVH-122 extends from 4.7 inches to 5.4 inches in the -NO configuration.
