The Omega CN1501 Series is a 1/8 DIN temperature and process profile ramp and soak controller designed for applications requiring programmable heating or cooling cycles. The unit combines ON/OFF control with PID precision to manage processes that require selectable heat/cool modes. It supports up to five different ramp and soak programs, each configurable with up to ten segments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CN1501 Series accepts a wide range of input types including Thermocouples (J, K, T, E, R, S, B), RTDs (Pt 385/392), Thermistors (2252 Ω @ 25°C), and process signals for Current (4 to 20 mA), Voltage (0 to 10 Vdc), and Millivolt (0 to 100 mV). Measurement ranges vary by input type, spanning from -328°F (-200°C) up to 3300°F (1800°C).

Performance specifications are defined as follows:

  • Accuracy: ±1°C/2°F ±1 cnt for J, K, T, E thermocouples; ±3°C/6°F ±1 cnt for R, S, B thermocouples; ±1°C ±1 digit for RTD and Thermistor inputs.
  • Voltage Accuracy: 0.05% ±1 digit for the CN1501-V model (0 to 10 Vdc).
  • Resolution: 1°C/1°F for thermocouple or RTD inputs; 0.1°C/0.2°F for Thermistor inputs.

  • A/D Conversion: 4 1/2 Digit (20000 count) with a dual slope integrating converter and typical conversion rate of 7/sec.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options for power, output signals, and alarm functions to accommodate specific installation needs.

Power Supply Options

Output and Alarm Configurations

The controller provides flexible output options including relays, open collector transistors, and DC pulse drivers. Standard outputs include a 5 Vdc drive @ 50 mA max (internal source) or Open Collector: 4 open collector outputs with a max sink capacity of 50 mA per output.

Ordering suffixes define specific alarm and timer configurations:

  • Suffix -3: Four 1 A alarm relays, 2 DC Pulse drivers for timers.
  • Suffix -4: 4 DC pulse drivers for alarms, 2 DC pulse for timers.

Relay outputs are specified as Single pole single throw (SPST), rated at 1 A @ 28 Vdc or 0.5 A @ 120 Vac resistive load.

Sensor and Input Selection

  • CN1501-TC: Thermocouple inputs (J, K, T, E).
  • CN1501-R/S/B: High temperature thermocouples (R, S, B).
  • CN1501-RTD: 2-wire RTDs with alpha coefficients of 0.00385 or 0.00392.
  • CN1501-TH: Thermistor input (2252 Ω @ 25°C).
  • CN1501-C/V/P: Process inputs for Current, Voltage, and Millivolt signals respectively.
