Supported Applications

The Omega DPS3000 series comprises multi-channel process scanners designed to monitor up to seven individual inputs. These instruments automatically scan through channels, displaying the channel number and process value for temperature (thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors), pressure, strain, voltage, current, and other linear signals. The units support functions including monitoring high and low readings on individual channels, calculating rate of change, tracking channels with highest or lowest readings, comparing processes against preset set-points, and determining process differentials between channels.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DPS3000 series accommodates a wide range of input types. Thermocouple inputs include J, K, T, E (DPS3100/3204), and R, S, B (DPS3200). Other supported signals are RTDs with 385 or 392 curves, 400 series thermistors, 0 to 10 Vdc, 4 to 20 mA current loops, and 0 to 100 mV. Accuracy specifications vary by input type: J, K, T, E inputs are rated at ±1°C; S inputs at 2°C; R and B inputs at 3°C. Cold junction compensation error is specified as 1°C for ambient temperatures between 10°C and 40°C.

Resolution is 1°C/°F for most temperature inputs, with thermistor input resolution listed as 0.1°C/°F. For process signals (voltage/current), the resolution is stated as 0.025% FS. The units feature a 4-digit display capable of showing three alphanumeric characters and include auto/manual scanning modes.

Physical Specifications

  • Dimensions: 57 H x 112 W x 178 mm D (2.25" x 4.4" x 7")
  • Weight: 1.2 kg (2.8 lb)
  • Housing Style: 1/8 DIN panel mount; requires a separate punch (e.g., DPP-5).

Power Requirements

  • Standard Power: 120 Vac, 60 Hz.
  • Optional AC Power: 240 Vac, 50 Hz (Suffix -1).
  • Optional DC Power: 9 to 15 Vdc, 900 mA (Suffix -2).

Output Signals & Alarms

The series supports optional alarm outputs configured as one per channel. Available output types include mechanical relays and DC drivers:

  • Mechanical Relay: 1 A @ 28 Vdc or 0.5 A @ 120 Vac, SPST, programmable as NO/NC.
  • DC Driver: 5 Vdc @ 50 mA (Open collector outputs are noted in the manual with a maximum sink of 100mA).

Configuration Options

The DPS3000 series is available in two primary configurations based on channel count and input flexibility:

  • DPS3104 / DPS3107 (Dedicated Input): 4-channel or 7-channel scanners where all channels share the same dedicated input type.
  • DPS3204 / DPS3207 (Programmable Input): 4-channel or 7-channel scanners allowing each channel to be independently programmed for different input types from a supported list.

Input Code Options

The series supports the following input codes, with programmability varying by model family:

  • R, S, B: Dedicated to R, S, or B thermocouples respectively (DPS3100); Programmable for respective TC plus 4-20 mA and 0-10 Vdc on DPS3200.
  • TC: J, K, T, E thermocouples. On programmable models, also supports 4-20 mA and 0-10 Vdc.
  • RTD: RTDs (385 and 392 curve). Programmable versions support additional process signals.
  • TH: 400 series thermistor. Programmable versions support additional process signals.
  • MV, V, C: Dedicated to 0-100 mV, 0-10 Vdc, and 4-20 mA respectively on DPS3100 models.
  • P: Programmable input code for 0-100 mV, 0-10 Vdc, or 4-20 mA (DPS3200 only).

Ordering Suffixes & Options

The series offers specific suffix codes to configure power and output options:

  • -1: 240 Vac Power option.
  • -2: 9 to 15 Vdc Power option.
  • -3 / -4 (7-channel models): Adds 7 relays or 7 DC drivers respectively for DPS3107/DPS3207.
  • -5 / -6 (4-channel models): Adds 4 relays or 4 DC drivers respectively for DPS3104/DPS3204.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two model families lies in input flexibility. The DPS3100 series (DPS3104, DPS3107) features dedicated inputs where all channels must be configured for a single sensor type defined by the input code (e.g., TC for J/K/T/E). In contrast, the DPS3200 series (DPS3204, DPS3207) provides programmable inputs. On these models, each channel can be independently set to a specific thermocouple type or process signal from an expanded list that includes 4-20 mA and 0-10 Vdc alongside the primary sensor types.

Channel count variations are denoted by the model number suffix: "4" indicates a 4-channel unit (channels 1 through 4), while "7" indicates a 7-channel unit (channels 1 through 7). The manual notes that references to channel numbers in documentation apply strictly to these ranges for their respective models.
