Supported Applications
The Omega FPD3100 Series positive displacement flow meters are designed for the measurement of corrosive and non-abrasive liquids. Utilizing an oval gear principle, these instruments provide reliable flow measurement with high accuracy over a wide range of fluid viscosities. The series is suitable for both gravity-fed systems and in-line pump applications due to its low pressure drop characteristics.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FPD3100 Series delivers an accuracy of ±0.5% of reading with a repeatability of ±0.03%. The meters maintain consistent performance across fluid viscosities ranging from 1 cPs to 1,000 cPs standard. Process liquid temperatures are rated for -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F); models equipped with a digital display have an ambient operating temperature range of -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F).
Maximum pressure ratings vary by model size as documented in the series specifications:
- FPD3102 (¼"): 75 psi (500 kPa)
- FPD3103 (¼"): 75 psi (500 kPa)
- FPD3105 (1"): 150 psi (1,000 kPa)
The series supports flow ranges dependent on port size and viscosity. For fluids with viscosity less than 5 cPs, the FPD3102 covers 2 to 100 LPH (0.5 to 26 GPH), while the FPD3105 handles 3 to 25 LPM (2.6 to 26 GPM). For fluids with viscosity greater than 5 cPs, ranges shift accordingly, such as 0.5 to 100 LPH (0.13 to 26 GPH) for the FPD3102.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options regarding display integration and output signals:
- Pulse Output Models: Standard NPN pulse output using Reed or Hall-Effect sensors. Power requirements are 4.5 to 24 Vdc (7.5 mA) for Hall-Effect sensors and up to 30 Vdc (500 mA) for Reed switches.
- Battery-Powered Display (-D): Includes a digital display powered by an included 3 Vdc lithium battery. These models do not provide an external output signal.
- DC Powered Transmitter (-D-A): Features a DC-powered digital display with a 4 to 20 mA transmitter output, requiring an 18 to 30 Vdc power supply for the display unit.
Housing and wetted materials are selected for chemical resistance. The body and rotors are constructed from PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide). Seals utilize FKM or FEP (specifically on the FPD3105 model), with Hastelloy C shafts and stainless steel fasteners. Electrical connections use 2 x 12 mm fittings, and the enclosure is rated NEMA 6 (IP67).
Process connections are available as Female NPT or BSP (via the "-BSP" option). Installation requires mounting with meter shafts in a horizontal plane.
Key Product Differences
The FPD3100 Series is differentiated by port size and flow capacity:
- FPD3102 & FPD3103: ¼" port sizes. The FPD3102 targets lower flow rates (starting at 2 LPH for low viscosity), while the FPD3103 supports higher flows up to 500 LPH.
- FPD3105: A larger 1" port size designed for significantly higher volumetric flow, ranging from 2 to 30 LPM depending on viscosity conditions. This model also features FEP seals in addition to the standard PPS body and rotors.
Model numbering follows the pattern FPD310X - [Display Option] - [Connection Type]. For example, adding "-BSP" designates BSP connections. Display options are appended as "-D" for battery-powered or "-D-A" for DC-powered with 4 to 20 mA output.
