Supported Applications
The Omega SGK series comprises Karma Linear Pattern Strain Gages designed to measure strain in a single direction. These gages are utilized for general linear strain measurement and feature miniature patterns suitable for stress concentration or high gradient areas.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Karma Linear Diaphragm Strain Gauges operate across an ambient temperature range of -75 to 200°C (-100 to 392°F). The series is characterized by good linearity over this wide temperature span and provides a documented fatigue life. Electrical connection is provided via solder pads, with maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) varying by specific gage pattern.
Configuration Options
The SGK series offers configurable options across multiple parameters to accommodate different installation requirements:
- Gage Patterns and Dimensions: Available in various styles with active lengths ranging from 5.5 mm (0.22 inch) to 11.3 mm (0.44 inch). Specific patterns include L1D, L1E, L3A, L3B, L3C, L3D, L3E, L6A, and L6B.
- Nominal Resistance: Offered in 350 Ω or 1000 Ω configurations depending on the model number.
- Temperature Compensation (TEMP COMP): Gages are available with temperature characteristics matched to steel ('ST') or aluminum ('AL').
- Termination: All listed variants feature solder pads. The gage grid can be terminated at both ends or one end.
- Packaging and Accessories: Gages are supplied in packages of 5. Options include Bondable Terminal Pads (BTP) for stress relief, ribbon leads from the strain gage or user-supplied fine gage wire (30 AWG), and instrumentation wire ranging from 20 to 28 AWG.
- Customization: Custom gages are available upon request.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the SGK series differ primarily by physical dimensions, resistance value, and temperature compensation material. The model number structure follows the format: SGK-<GAGE PATTERN>-<RESISTANCE>-<TERMINATION>-<TEMP COMP>-<TERM PAD>. For example, a 350 Ω gage with steel compensation is designated 'ST' in the TEMP COMP column (e.g., SGK-L6A-K350U-PC11-E), while aluminum compensation uses 'AL' (e.g., SGK-L6B-K350U-PC23-E). Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage varies by pattern, with values such as 6.5 Vrms for the L1D pattern and up to 35 Vrms for specific 1000 Ω configurations.
