Supported Applications
The OM-EL-USB-5 is a standalone USB data logger built to record events, state changes, and event counts. Rather than logging an analog process value, it captures digital activity, making it a flexible tool for documenting how and when equipment or contacts change state over time.
Typical uses include:
- Recording machine or motor run cycles and on/off activity.
- Logging door, gate, or access open and close events.
- Counting pulses from sensors, switches, and metering outputs.
- Monitoring alarm or relay state changes in control panels.
Signals are wired to the logger through two screw terminals, and the unit accepts either a voltage input or volt-free contacts. Four selectable voltage input ranges are provided: 0 - 3V, 0 - 5V, 0 - 12V, and 0 - 24V, so the logger can be matched to a wide variety of signal sources.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The logger operates across an ambient range of -35°C (-31°F) to +80°C (176°F) and maintains a timing accuracy of ±3 Seconds per 24 hours, giving a dependable time stamp for every recorded event.
Logging speed depends on the selected mode. The OM-EL-USB-5 records up to four times per second when logging events, up to two times per second when logging state changes, and up to 100 times per second when counting. Onboard memory stores up to 32,510 readings, allowing extended unattended deployments.
Each voltage input range has defined low and high trigger thresholds:
- 0 - 3V range: low trigger 0.8V, high trigger 2V.
- 0 - 5V range: low trigger 1.3V, high trigger 3.4V.
- 0 - 12V range: low trigger 3.2V, high trigger 8V.
- 0 - 24V range: low trigger 6.4V, high trigger 16V.
The device is powered by a 1/2AA 3.6V Lithium Battery providing up to 1 year of operation. The module measures 98.0 mm (3.86 in) in length by 26.8 mm (1.05 in) in diameter. It is manufactured under ISO 9001 certification.
Configuration Options
This series is supplied as a single model, the OM-EL-USB-5, which consolidates three logging capabilities in one unit.
Event logging
In event mode the logger time stamps each transition, recording up to four times per second so that short-duration events are captured accurately.
State-change logging
State mode records transitions up to two times per second, documenting how long an input remains in each state.
Event counting
In counter mode the logger accumulates pulses at rates up to 100 times per second, suited to high-frequency counting from switches and sensors.
Across all three modes the logger uses the same two screw terminals and the same selectable voltage input ranges of 0 - 3V, 0 - 5V, 0 - 12V, and 0 - 24V, along with support for volt-free contacts.
Key Product Differences
The series is ordered with the following model numbers:
- OM-EL-USB-5 — standard counter, event and state data logger, supplied with software on CD and battery.
- OM-EL-BATT — replacement battery.
