Supported Applications
The ACI Nickel Rigid Averaging Series temperature sensors are designed for use with electronic controllers in commercial heating and cooling building management systems. These rigid averaging probes provide a better average temperature reading over the length of the duct compared to single-point sensors, making them suitable for smaller to medium-sized ducts where longer flexible or copper averaging sensors cannot be easily incorporated.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series utilizes a Nickel RTD (PTC) sensing element with four evenly spaced sensing points. The probe features a 0.250" (6.35mm) nominal diameter sheath constructed from 304 Series Stainless Steel, hermetically sealed to prevent moisture intrusion and offering corrosion resistance against chemicals and moisture in the air stream.
Performance specifications for the Nickel RTD element include:
- Sensor Output @ 21.1°C (70°F): 1000 Ohms nominal with Red/Red lead wire colors.
- Accuracy: +/- 0.22°C (+/- 0.39°F) at 21.1°C (70°F); +/- 0.60°C (+/- 1.07°F) at 54.4°C (130°F).
- Din Standard: Din 43760 with a temperature coefficient of 6370 ppm/°C.
- Sensor Stability: +/- 0.05% after 1000 Hours @ 150°C (302°F).
- Response Time (63% Step Change): 10 Seconds nominal.
- Self-Heating: 0.3°C/mW in still air; Maximum Operating Current is 5 mA.
The series supports operating humidity ranges of 10 to 95% RH, non-condensing. Storage temperature range is -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F).
Configuration Options
The Nickel Rigid Averaging Series offers configurable probe lengths and enclosure options tailored for duct mounting applications.
- Sensing Element: Four sensing points on a rigid stainless steel probe with an integrated foam pad to seal the duct and dampen vibrations. The sensor is installed by drilling a 3/8" hole in the duct and inserting the probe until the foam pad is tight.
- Probe Lengths: Available in 12", 18", 24", and 36" configurations to match overall dimensional areas of various duct sizes.
- Enclosures & Ratings:
- -GD (Galvanized Steel): -40 to 115°C (-40 to 239°F), NEMA 1 (IP10).
- -PB (ABS Plastic): -30 to 90°C (-22 to 194°F), UL94-HB, Plenum Rated.
- -BB (Aluminum): -40 to 115°C (-40 to 239°F), NEMA 3R (IP 14).
- -4X (Polystyrene Plastic): -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F), UL94-V2, NEMA 4X (IP 66).
- Electrical Connection: Two non-polarity sensitive wires with Etched Teflon (PTFE) colored leads meeting MIL-W-16878/4 (Type E). Lead length is standard at 12" (30.5cm), conductor size is 22 AWG (0.65mm).
- Approvals: CE, RoHS2, WEEE.
Optional NIST Certificates are available as referenced in the ordering grid.
Key Product Differences
Variants within this series differ primarily by probe length and enclosure type. The standard model number construction follows the format: A/1K-NI-RA-[Probe Length]-[Enclosure]. For example, a 12" probe with a Galvanized Enclosure is designated as A/1K-NI-RA-12"-GD.
While the series supports multiple enclosure materials (Galvanized Steel, ABS Plastic, Aluminum, Polystyrene Plastic), specific stocked variants may be limited to certain combinations. The -PB and -GD enclosures are standard options; -BB and -4X enclosures represent optional weather-proof configurations available for custom ordering.
