Supported Applications
The ACI Balco Outdoor Air series is a single-point temperature sensor designed for use with electronic controllers in commercial heating and cooling building management systems. The sensors are intended for outdoor mounting to measure ambient air conditions.
- Commercial HVAC control applications requiring weatherproof sensing elements.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a temperature range of -40 to 70°C (-22 to 158°F) and supports an operating humidity range of 10 to 100% RH, condensing. The Balco RTD sensor element provides a nominal output of 1000 Ohms at 70°F (21.1°C) with an accuracy of +/- 1% at that temperature point. Sensor stability is rated at +/- 0.05% after 1000 Hours @ 150°C (302°F). The response time for a 63% step change is 30 Seconds nominal, and the maximum operating current is 5 mA.
Configuration Options
The series offers three enclosure configurations to suit different installation environments. All variants include two non-polarity sensitive lead wires with 14" (35.6cm) length, 22 AWG (0.65mm) conductor size, and Etched (PTFE) Teflon colored leads rated MIL-W-16878/4 (Type E). The sensing element utilizes a double encapsulation process with thermally conductive epoxy.
Enclosure Options
- Euro Enclosure (-EH): PC/ASA Plastic w/ UV Protectant, UL94-V0. Rated for -40 to 88°C (-40 to 190°F). Features a twist-off cover and watertight cord grip.
- NEMA 4X Enclosure (-4X): Polystyrene Plastic, UL94-V2. Rated NEMA 4X (IP 66) for -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F).
- Bell Box Enclosure (-BB): Aluminum construction rated NEMA 3R.
Ordering Options
- NIST Certificates (available as an option for specific configurations).
The series is certified to CE, RoHS2, and WEEE standards. Installation requires mounting in a shaded location with the sensing tube pointed downward to prevent water or ice accumulation.
Key Product Differences
Variants within this series are distinguished by their enclosure type and material composition:
- The A/BALCO-O-EH model utilizes a Euro-style plastic housing with UV protection, weighing 0.46 lbs (0.21kg).
- The A/BALCO-O-4X model features a NEMA 4X rated polystyrene enclosure, weighing 0.38 lbs (0.17kg).
- The A/BALCO-O-BB model employs an aluminum Bell Box housing with NEMA 3R rating, weighing 0.76 lbs (0.35kg).
