Supported Applications
The Omega SGD series comprises precision rectangular stacked rosette strain gages configured with a 0°/45°/90° pattern. These compact, three-element sensors are designed for measuring multi-directional strain in structural and mechanical testing applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series offers nominal resistances of 120 Ω and 350 Ω across small, medium, and large gage sizes. Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) varies by model configuration:
- SGD-2 Series: Ranges from 3 Vrms to 7 Vrms depending on resistance and termination.
- SGD-3 Series: Ranges from 4.5 Vrms to 10 Vrms.
- SGD-7 Series: Ranges from 9 Vrms to 20 Vrms.
Gage dimensions are defined by active grid length (A), active grid width (B), and matrix carrier size (C/D). For example, the SGD-2 pattern features a 2.00 mm (0.079 inch) grid A dimension with a 5.60 mm (0.220 inch) carrier C dimension.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple configuration options to accommodate different installation and material requirements:
- Gage Sizes: Available in three sizes identified by the model prefix: SGD-2 (5.6 mm carrier), SGD-3 (7.1 mm carrier), and SGD-7 (11.4 mm carrier).
- Nominal Resistance: 120 Ω or 350 Ω.
- Electrical Connections: Ribbon Leads or Solder Pads.
- Termination Material: Steel (ST) or Aluminum (AL).
- Temperature Compensation: BPT-1, BPT-2, and BPT-3 options correspond to the specific gage size series.
Packaging is provided in packages of 5. Custom-designed strain gages are available with no minimum quantities; consult engineering for details.
Key Product Differences
The SGD-TRIAXIAL model number follows the format SGD-<SIZE>/<RESISTANCE>-<TERMINATION>. The size code (2, 3, or 7) determines the physical dimensions and maximum voltage rating. Resistance is specified as either 120 or 350 Ω.
Termination codes distinguish between electrical connection types and material compatibility:
- Ribbon Leads: Models ending in -RY5 (e.g., SGD-2/120-RY51).
- Solder Pads: Models ending in -RY6 (e.g., SGD-2/120-RY61).
- Material Specifics: The final digit indicates the termination material: 1 for Steel (ST) and 3 for Aluminum (AL). For instance, RY51 denotes Ribbon Leads with ST termination, while RY53 denotes Ribbon Leads with AL termination.

Hello, I bought the model SGD-7/350-RY51 and the model SGD-10/120-LY11 and I need the thermal output correction factor of the models, or failing that, the thermal output correction polynomial, thank you very much

Do the gages come with lead wire? If so, what is the length of the wire?
Hi, thanks for connecting with Omega. The SGD-2/120-RY51 comes with ribbon leads. The dimension of the ribbon leads are as follows: (1.2 L x 0.004" Dia). The fine ribbon leads from the strain gauge must be soldered on to a bond-able terminal pad for stress relief and the instrumentation wire must be connected to the bondable terminal pad. It the STC AL and ST for steel and aluminum? I need one for aluminum, so like 13 ppm/F
Thanks for the inquiry
AL stands for self-temperature compensation for Aluminum. SGD-2/350-RY53 is rated for use with Aluminum. If you click on the data sheet you will see a table that corresponds each strain gauge to steel or Aluminum.

Do the SGD-2/350-RY51 models come in packs of 5? If I order x1 Qty. of this model, do I get one gauge or one pack of 5 gauges for the listed price? Wanting to confirm, thanks!
Correct. If you order a quantity of 1 of SGD-2/350-RY51 you will get a single pack containing 5 gages.
