Supported Applications

The Omega P-Ultra RTD series comprises Ultra Precise Immersion Sensors and Air and Gas Measurement Sensors. These Pt100 (100Ω @ 0°C) Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors are engineered for liquid immersion applications as well as air and gas environments, where the sensors feature vent holes to allow direct airflow to the RTD element.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates across a process temperature range of -100 to 400°C (-148 to 752°F). Sensors utilize Pt100 elements with an alpha coefficient of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C and are available in Class A, 1/5 DIN, or 1/10 DIN accuracy classes. The interchangeability specifications vary by temperature point; for example, at -100°C the tolerance is ±0.35°C (Class A), while at 400°C it reaches ±0.95°C.

Standard construction features a stainless steel sheath with diameters of 3 mm (1/8") or 6 mm (1/4"). The electrical connection is specified as 4-Wire Construction to minimize lead wire resistance errors. Standard cable length is 1 m, consisting of #26 AWG stranded cable with stripped ends.

Configuration Options

The P-Ultra series supports extensive configuration options for mounting threads, probe lengths, and cable insulation materials tailored to specific environmental constraints.

  • Sensor Accuracy: Class A, 1/5 DIN, or 1/10 DIN.
  • Diameters: 3 mm (1/8") or 6 mm (1/4").
  • Mounting Threads: Available in NPT sizes including 1/8 NPT, 1/4 NPT, 3/8 NPT, and 1/2 NPT. Metric threads include M6x1, M8x1, and M10x1.
  • Cable Insulation: PVC (-29 to 100°C), PFA (-100 to 250°C), Fiberglass (-73 to 400°C), or Silicone Rubber (-50 to 200°C).
  • Shielding Options: Available for PVC, PFA, and Fiberglass cables (designated PS, TS, GS).
  • Probe Lengths: Standard lengths include 6" or 150 mm; customizable insertion lengths are supported.

Sensors with a transition fitting at the end of the sheath are included for 3 mm (1/8") and 6 mm (1/4") diameter sensors without threaded fittings when paired with P, PS, TS, GS, or S cables. Note that M6 threads are not available on 6 mm Dia probes.

Key Product Differences

The series is divided into two primary functional families: Immersion Sensors (Model prefix P-M-) and Air/Gas Sensors (Model prefix P-L-). The model number structure follows the pattern of Accuracy, Sensor Diameter, Mounting Thread, Probe Length, Cable Insulation type, and length code. For example, a 1/8" diameter sensor with Class A accuracy, no thread, 6" probe, PVC cable, and 3' length is designated P-M-A-1/8-6-0-P-3.

Model variations allow for specific customization of the sheath material (Stainless Steel), mounting configuration (threaded vs. unthreaded with transition fitting), and insulation type to match process temperature limits.

Is the stainless steel probe electrically isolated from the inside circuitry? Do I need to be worried about potentially grounding the stainless steel probe?

Asked by: Tian
The RTD sensor and wires are isolated from the sheath so there would be no conduction between them.
