Supported Applications
The DP41 Series is a 1/8 DIN high-performance digital panel meter and controller for industrial instrumentation, with a high-resolution 6-digit display. A single platform reads a remarkably wide set of inputs - DC voltage and current, thermocouples (9 types), 2-, 3- or 4-wire RTDs, strain gages, load cells and potentiometers - so one meter family can be standardized across temperature, process, force and weight applications.
A 14-segment LED display gives clear alphanumeric messaging, and built-in alarm and control capability lets the meter act on a measurement, not just display it. Isolated RS232/RS485 communications, analog retransmission, BCD output and relay outputs are available as plug-in boards for integration and control.
The front panel is rated NEMA 4 (IP65) for wash-down and dusty environments, and the meter carries CE, UKCA and cULus marks. A red LED display is standard, with a green LED available at no charge.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The meter offers a headline accuracy of ±0.005% rdg with a 15-bit resolution and dual-slope conversion. Step response is 1 s to 99.9%, the reading rate is 3 or 13 readings per second at 60 Hz (3 or 12 at 50 Hz), and rated accuracy is reached after a 50-minute warm-up. Thermocouple and RTD resolution is 0.01°.
Thermocouple input ranges and accuracies are:
- Type J: -210 to 760°C (-346 to 1400°F), to 0.2°C (0.3°F).
- Type K: -270 to 1372°C (-454 to 2500°F), to 0.2°C (0.3°F).
- Type T: -270 to 400°C (-454 to 752°F).
- Type E: -270 to 1000°C (-454 to 1832°F).
- Type R/S: -50 to 1768°C (-58 to 3214°F).
- Type B: 100 to 1820°C (212 to 3300°F).
- Type N: -270 to 1300°C (-454 to 2372°F).
- J DIN: -200 to 900°C (-328 to 1652°F), to 0.6°C (1.0°F).
- RTD: -200 to 850°C (-328 to 1562°F), to 0.2°C (0.3°F).
DC ranges cover 0 to 100 mV, ±500 mV, 0 to 5 V, 1 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 100 V, ±5 V, ±50 V, 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA, and bridge excitation is available at 10 V at 30 mA or 24 V at 25 mA.
The meter operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at 95% RH non-condensing and stores at -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Power is 115 or 230 Vac, 49 to 400 Hz, or 10 to 32 Vdc. Analog output spans 0 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA, with dual 7 A mechanical relays available as a board option.
Configuration Options
The model number is assembled as DP41 - <Input Type> - <Power> - <Communications> - <Output> - <Accessory>, so the meter is configured input-first and then built up with power, communication and output options. Power and display options include:
- -230 - 230 Vac power.
- -DC - 10 to 32 Vdc isolated power.
- -GN - green LED display.
Output and communication capability is added through plug-in boards, which map to the suffixes in the model number:
- DP40-A3 - analog output.
- DP40-S24 - isolated RS232/485 communications.
- DP40-B - isolated BCD output board.
- DP40-R - dual 7 A mechanical relays; DP40-R4 - dual 7 A and dual 1 A relays.
Because inputs, power, communications and outputs are ordered independently, a base DP41-TC becomes a fully featured DP41-TC-230-S2A with mains power, communications and analog output, or a low-voltage DP41-E-DC-AR4 with analog output and relays.
Key Product Differences
The platform is organized first by input type. The core To Order indicators are:
- DP41-E - process voltage/current indicator.
- DP41-TC - thermocouple indicator.
- DP41-RTD - RTD indicator.
- DP41-U - universal input indicator.
- DP41-S - strain gage indicator; DP41-W - NTEP weight strain indicator.
Each is also offered as a DP41Z split-display version (DP41Z-E, DP41Z-TC, DP41Z-RTD, DP41Z-U, DP41Z-S and DP41Z-W) with a remote display. Every input model then combines with power, communication and output suffixes to form the full lineup - for example DP41-U-230-S2, DP41-RTD-DC-S4 or DP41-E-S2AR4.
Accessories include the SPC4 and SPC18 NEMA 4 (IP65) splashproof lenses, 9- and 25-pin serial connectors (DP40-9SC2, DP40-9SC4, DP40-25SC2, DP40-25SC4), the DP41-TBS bench stand and the DPP-5 1/8 DIN panel punch. The meter measures 48 H x 96 W x 165 mm D (1.89 x 3.78 x 6.5") and weighs 574 g (1.27 lb).

The scaling is a "unique" process, wherein a simple zero point and span point will not be sufficient, and a scaling and offset coefficient will need to be altered for correct span value and zero/null reading respectively. This isn't inline with industry standards. Where most other instrument manufactures have implemented such a basic function as two point linearity, the DP-41 requires extra steps. It has a two point linearity feature, however it simply doesn't work. After designating a zero and span value, and returning to operation mode, the applied values from adjustment will not match the meter display. This was confirmed in calibration lab on a calibrated bench meter (34401A) and a power supply (6115A).
What's more, if the 2 point scaling procedure is done multiple times, the parameters will change by a large margin (we saw about a 350% error between scaling procedures, performing the operation 20 times). This isn't random; the error occurs every other time. Again, two point scaling is a very basic function of most instrumentation that the DP-41 fails at accomplishing.

I have a DP41-E connected to an LVDT. How would I connect a computer to it and record values at set intervals? If I add a RS-232/RS-485 Communications board is there a software that then records for me?
There is no specific software package offered for the serial communication option on the DP41 Series display. There is separate user's manual available for the user's manual that would aid you in writing a program for the serial communication. For the DP41-E, does the automatic tare feature adjust the zero offset numbers (so as to automatically adjust the zero offset), or does it only change the display to zero? There is a sensor I am working with that tends to drift thermally through the day.

When you use the tare function it tares only the number that is displayed at the time if it drifts afterwards you would need to tare again.

I have DP41-U Model, is DP41-U-A the same? Are they compatible or what is the difference from DP41-U to DP41-U-A?

I'm using a DP41-S with a LCMGD20KN load cell and I'm not able to calibrate, I followed the complete manual step by step but I couldn't help me or give any tips.

Does the DP41-E-DC-A Model have the option for multipoint scale and offset configurations (MP.SC.OF)? If not, why. I cant find anything in the manual and I have a discontinued model DP41-B and that manual does have a MP.SC.OF options
The DP41-E and DP41-S displays do not have a multipoint scaling feature. Only the obsolete DP41-B and DP41-W displays had this feature
