Supported Applications

The Omega 5TC Series consists of ready-made insulated thermocouples designed for temperature measurement. These sensors are supplied with stripped leads and feature ANSI color-coded insulation to facilitate identification in wiring harnesses, control panels, or instrumentation setups requiring discrete sensor elements.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The 5TC Series meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. The series supports thermocouple calibrations J, K, T, and E. Standard overall lengths are available in 1 m (40") or 2 m (80"). Wire diameters vary by AWG gage, ranging from 0.08 mm (0.003) for 40 AWG to 0.81 mm (0.032) for 20 AWG.

Configuration Options

The series offers a configurable envelope across insulation materials, wire gages, lengths, and termination options:

 • Insulation Materials: PFA (Model prefix TT), Kapton® (KK), or Glass Braid (GG).
 • Wire Gage & Diameter: Available in 20, 24, 30, and 36 AWG for all insulation types; 40 AWG is available with PFA. Diameters range from 0.81 mm (0.032) down to 0.08 mm (0.003).
 • Lengths: Standard lengths include 1 m and 2 m. Additional length increments are offered for GG or TT wire at an additional cost per 300 mm (12") package of 5, and similarly for KK wire.
 • Packaging: Sensors are supplied in convenient 5-packs. OEM quantities are available.
 • NIST Calibration: Available upon request.

Optional accessories include M8/M12 connectors and TAP Adhesive Labels (Model TAP). The adhesive labels feature a thickness of 0.064 mm (0.002"), are made of polyimide film with silicone pressure sensitive adhesive, and have a maximum temperature rating of 180°C (356°F).

Connector Options

M8/M12 connectors can be added to the model number for additional cost:

 • Straight M8 Plug: Add "M8-S-M".
 • Straight M12 Plug: Add "M12-S-M".
 • Right-Angled M8 Plug: Add "M8-R-M".
 • Right-Angled M12 Plug: Add "M12-S-M" (as specified in source).

Ordering Configuration

The model number follows the format: 5TC-<INSULATION>-<CALIBRATION>-<AWG>-<LENGTH>. For example, "5TC-TT-K-30-36" denotes a 5-pack of PFA insulated thermocouples with Type K calibration (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®), 30 AWG wire, and a length of 1 m (40") with stripped lead termination.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the series are distinguished by insulation type, thermocouple calibration code, wire gage, and overall length. The "GG" prefix indicates Glass Braid insulation; "TT" denotes PFA; and "KK" signifies Kapton®. Calibration codes correspond to Type J, K, T, or E elements. Length suffixes in the model number represent inches (e.g., 36 for 1 m/40", 72 for 2 m/80") or metric equivalents depending on the specific variant listing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Product I purchased a package of 5 thermocouples. They arrived well packaged and, for someone who doesn't work w/thermocouples, the workmanship and insulation were very nice. I would definitely purchase this product from Omega again.

What is the diameter of the thermocouple 5TC-TT-J-40-36? Can it be used at temperatures up to 500 °C? At what temperature does the insulation start to melt for this thermocouple?

Asked by: Mohammad
Thank you for your inquiry Moe1. The size of the cross section of 5TC-TT-J-40-36 is 0.4 x 0.7 mm (0.017" x 0.026"). You cannot use 5TC-TT-J-40-36 at temperatures up to 500 °C since it is only rated for temperatures up to 260 C and will start to melt if used in temperatures over 260 C.

What is the percentage uncertainty for 5TC-TT-KI-40-1M? I am working in a temperature range of 15-60 degrees, is the uncertainty 0.4%, so 0.06-0.24 C?

Asked by: JPMooney
Thank you for the inquiry. We do not provide uncertainty numbers for this series. Accuracy spec follows ANSI special limits of error; +/- 0.4% of reading or 1.1 C whichever is greater. Best regards OMEGA

Can I submerged 5TC series thermocouple in water ?

Asked by: Edouard
Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend submerging 5TC series thermocouple in water. For a submersible thermocouple, please look at the HSTC series hermetically sealed thermocouples: https://assets.omega.com/pdf/test-and-measurement-equipment/temperature/sensors/thermocouple-probes/HSTC.pdf

What is the Tip Length? 5TC-TT-T-30-120. (The total length is 3m I need to know the Tip Length at the point of contact. Is it immersible in the water?

Asked by: RAJNe
The bead is nominally 2.5x the diameter of the wire so 30 AWG being .010" the bead is 0.025". It is not considered an immersion probe but for short durations it can be used.

Can this exposed thermocouple be attached directly to a metal surface? Or does it need to be electrically isolated first.

Asked by: Heather
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, you can attach the exposed thermocouple directly to a metal surface but we recommend electrically isolating the tip to avoid any noise issues.
